COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beautifully colored ale strikes an agreeable balance between malt and hops. Caramel + toffee notes from the use of more highly kilned malts step up to complement this beer's assertive hop profile.

A beautifully balanced beer. Nice spiciness in the nose. Smooth maltiness on the tongue but when you swallow you get all this hop action going on.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours amber with good off-white head. The aroma is spicy hops, some bark, light caramel. The flavor is melon, some spicy and earthy bitterness. There’s a sugary caramel note throughout that keeps me from getting into this beer.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2011 Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a dark caramel-amber color with a medium sized khaki head. The aroma was faintly sweet and fruity. The flavor was toasy, yeasty and had notes of caramel and fruity hops. It turned a bit sour in the middle and had a bitter finish.

kkearn (1163) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 27, 2008
Draft at the brewpub 5/25/08. Poured reddish amber, capped with a moderate sized off-white head. Moderately hoppy, citric aroma, backed with toffee and caramel malt. Caramel malt hits the palate first and is soon joined by grapefruity hops, nuts, and some earthy character. Tasty and very drinkable.

Sampled on draught at Pints for Pets. Nice fresh hoppy nose with a bit of maple, grapefruit and apricot. Nice bouquet, though subdued. Dark amber clear with thin head. Medium bodied with medium-light carbonation. Starts with ligh sweet character, beany, with light pilsner malt character. Good fresh hoppy character throughout. Mild bitter finish with a bit of a tang. Decent ale with light salty after.

auerbrau (2666) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - MAR 14, 2008
On tap at the brewpub. Lightly hazed orange-red copper pour. Sticky white sheet remains above. Musky malt grain aroma. Subtle. Flavor carries a rather heavy malt bill. Rich grain caramels, light nutty character and sweet kiss of grapefruit hops. A little husky and with that under-fermented grain sugar feeling. Slightly astringent for sure, and the hops play a little metallic on the back end. Otherwise fresh and clean. Distinct note of maple syrup in the finish.
