Sample at Dad & Dude’s. This brew pours dark brown with a medium tan head that recedes slowly. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel and grain. Medium body with a sweet roasty character with notes of malt, floral hops and caramel. The finish is short and sweet and leaves a short malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Poured creamy brown with off white head, aroma has notes of toffee, nuts, some earth, biscuity notes as well. Taste is some slight notes of nuts, caramel and spice notes, hints of grass, finishing slight sweet and a touch watery.

(draft at CO state fair Foamfest, 8/28/10). Clear dark copper color. Small off white head. Moderate toast/malt aroma, with light chocolate. Flavor of the same, with a light burnt character. Avg duration. Light lasting burnt flavor on the finish. Thin/slick texture. Soft carbonation. Spare lacing.

Elk Mountain out of Parker, CO is a brand-new brewery that seems to really be putting out some great beers. They are quite consistent. Their ghost town brown is one of my favorites. It is apparently award winning and I can see why. It has a strong nutty roasted aroma and taste. The color is great and is complete with great head retention. I taste a slightly bitter finish but it’s not offensive. I would prefer just a touch more sweetness to the finish. All around a great beer and a great brewery!!

Tap at Falling Rock. Pours clear brown with a medium-light tan head, good retention and lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, chocolate, toasted grain), medium hops (flowers), moderate yeast (earth) with notes of dates and dark cocoa. Malt focused with low bitterness. Medium body and carbonation.

On tap at Falling Rock poured a clear dark brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of cocoa, carmel and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, cocoa and light earthiness with a smooth dry malt finish. WooHoo I entered the first rating for Elk Mountain!!!
