Gravity cask at the Battersea Beer Festival, 8th Feb 2008. Opaque black and extremely still, this has a strong smell of alcohol, camphor and roasted barley. The flavour is a heady mix of coffee, tar and liquorice. It’s got an almost medicinal quality to it. The full, creamy mouthfeel accentuates the fierce flavours. Worth sampling.
Re-rated, cask at GBBF 08, up from a 3.6. Very flavoursome, this is an engrossing beer.

half @ 18th battersea bf. Smelled of tar and coffe. Looked a very dark reddish brown. Tasted of coffee, camphor(cough sweets) and liquorice and presented itself with a strong but rather short mouthfeel. interesting indeed.

Stillage @ CAMRA York Beer Fest, november 07. Flat, dark color with almost no carbonatation. Deep, lovely, raisiny aroma. Couchy. Taste is a mix between raisins, almonds, some treacle and a bit of burnt sugar and liquorice. Full palate, coating, velvet but with a dry finnish. Heavy, warming, complex strong porter.

Cask, gravity, at Bedford Beer Festival ’07. Very dark brown. Ashy malt aroma. Strong burnt malt and chocolate taste. More bitterness than one would expect. Very good,

Cask (Peterborough BF 2007) (sip)
Rich burnt malty aroma. Massive baltic porter taste. Smokey and malty. Dangerous, but so very tempting. (7-5-8-4-14=3.8)

Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Real Ale Festival 2009)
Day 2: Bacony aroma, touch of smoke, and hoppy notes too. Roasty burnt body, fruity esters, including pairs. Great stout.

A Mes rate: Gravicask. A superb porter. Sweet toffee, coffee, treacle and roasty notes. Obvious hops and fruit. Good balance. Lovely mouth feel. Bittering finish. It’s got the lot. Lovely.
