Cask; Regular.
Elland Best Bitter is a dry and aromatic beer made with Maris Otter Pale malt and a blend of English and American Hops. All this goes together to produce a straw coloured beer that is strong on aroma with a pronounced bitter flavour.

Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2007. A golden beer with a huge cream colored head. The aroma is sweet mlaty with light notes of citrus. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of citrusy hops and straw, leding to a good bitter finish.

Hazy blond color. Nice fudge/toffee aroma. Some malt flavor, with residual sweetness, low bitterness, less interesting than the aroma.

Cask gravity at K&ES Railway BF 2011. Pale clear gold thin white head. Cracking condition bit of hard candy but extremely pleasant. Easy drinking but not a best bitter.

Cask conditioned at Harbury Beer Fest ’11. Clear gold with white head. Crisp, sharp malts wit a rich tea biscuit type character. Reasonable hop notes to balance up quite nicely. A decent sessionable bitter.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2006 1. Cask Stillage at the Town Hall, Stockport 29/05/2003 Light golden and slightly cloudy appearance. Some acidic taste and a strong bitter finish. 2. Cask Stillage at the Town Hall, Stockport 30/05/2003 Tried again to see if there was any improvement but unfotunately there wasn’t - Golden hazy and acidic with a slightly dry hop finish. 3. Cask Handpump at the Crown Inn, Stockport 15/07/2006 Now called ’Elland Best’ and thankfully a much nicer drink than it was on my previous encounters. Hoppy aroma. Clear golden coloured very hoppy and slightly citrus flavour. A little creaminess and bitterness in a malt finish.

Cask conditioned handpump Malt Shovel Northampton. A pale blonde beer with a white head and lacing. A dry Yorkshire bitter. Decent light hop flavours. Some orange notes but a bit of rubber. Quite normal.

Half pint, hand pulled cask at The Dagda Bar in Edinburgh. Golden body, slightly hazy. Missing head, fragile lacing. Floral hoppy aroma. Taste of fruity hops and honey sweetness, with a decent bitterness lingering on the swallow [26.10.2008].

Cask (handpump) at The Market Porter, Southwark, London. Very light coloured for a bitter - pale straw. Quite fresh and a little sharp, but the overall effect lacked body and depth. Didn’t make much of an impression, although you could certainly sup a few of these.

Cask at Victoria Hotel, Beeston, Nottingham. Gold with a white head. Cardboard aroma, possibly malty. Despite its claim to be ’strong on aroma’, I judged this the weakest feature. The taste was inconsistent: slight sweetness to begin, not much to notice in media res, followed by a pleasant hoppiness in extremis.
