UPDATED: JUN 25, 2009 1. Cask Handpump at the Rat & Ratchet, Huddersfield 04/12/2004 Black and slightly rich on the palate. Fruity with a bitter lasting full roast finish. 2. Cask Stillage at the Elland Brewery, Elland 18/08/2007 Roast aroma. Dark a little fruity and rich on the palate with some dryness in a crisp and bitter lasting finish.

Cask at the Market Porter. It pours darkest brown, with a decent beige head. The nose is mostly roasted malt, as well as smoky bacon and some cheesy hop. The taste is roasted malt, smoke, caramel, cola, bonfire, wood, liquorice and pepper, with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A flavoursome cask stout.

Bit of a surprise to see a Stout in Wetherspoons, especially in Rochdale! Very dark coloured, little head, coffee, chocolate notes, bitter finish. May have been turning though..

Cask Conditioned handpump Malt Shovel Northampton. A dark ruby coloured beer with a whitish head. A rosty smoky aroma with a little fruitiness. Good bitterness in the mouth as well a roasted malts. Pretty dry and good.

Cask (handpump) @ The Grove, 2 Spring Grove Street, West Yorkshire, Huddersfield, England HD1 4BP.

Clear dark red brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, burnt, coffee. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, burnt dark malt bitter. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20100119]

Cask. Pours a dark brown with an orange hue and a rough beige head. Burned malt in the nose with some licorice. Quite full-bodied, hard roasted malts, licorice and tobacco. Distinct malt bitter finish - almost tar-like. 190110

Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2007. A brown beer with an orange head. The aroma is sweet alty with strong notes of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of hops and roasted malt, lingering for a long time in the aftertaste. The body is a bit thin.

Cask @ Volunteer Arms, GBBF 2007. Pours a black color with a tan head. Roasted malty coffee aroma. Sweet roasted malty coffee flavor with some hints of chocolate. Dry roasted malty finish with a bitter aftertaste.

Cask, GBBF 07. Black with thin tan head. Nose is roasted malts, some dark chocolate and some espresso. Some hints of milk chocolate too. Mouth is burnt malts, some chocolate, cocoa. Finishes quite sour and bitter. Rather enjoyed this.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival, April 2006. Pitch black with a thin beige head. Nice deep roast malt and creamy coffee aroma. The flavours are a little less intense than the aroma, with bitter chocolate coming through quite strongly. Relatively light mouthfeel with a subtle tart bitterness on the finish. Another good dark beer from E&S.

Gravity cask @ Reading Beer Festival 2006. Slight vegetal aroma amongst the smooth roasty coffee. Dry with a little rough bitterness. The opinions from the Reading BF seem to be at variance with others - perhaps not in best condition.
