COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

Appearance: Dark brown/black, with a thin white head. Aroma: Chocolate, fruit cake, slight pepper and balsamic tartness notes. Initial trace of banana which quickly disappeared. Taste: Malty, fruit cake richness, medium sweetness and low bitterness, with an alcohol warmth. Palate: Thin/medium body, slick texture, next to no carbonation, short bitter sweet finish, with enjoyable hint of sourness. Comments: Enjoyed this one and would have again. Drank from snifter.

Bottle from Liberty Wine Merchants on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. Black as ink with a goodly tan head. Sweet malts on the nose. Taste is dry and body is thin for an impy stout. Coffee and chocolate notes here, as expected. Enjoyable, but I would not compare this to either of my 2 benchmark impys, Old Rasputin or Brooklyn Black Chocolate. It does not measure up to either of those. I do like the built in stopper on the bottle. Very handy. I’ll try some again later...
