The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

From tap@Delirium. Black color with a disappearing beige brownish head. Nose. Mocha, roasted black Malts, hop aroma, black fruit. Taste, roasted malts, chocolate, raisins, has a fruity touch. Finish is bitter and dry, but also a sweet touch is present. Coffee in the finish, very present in the end, without being too much. Not sticky at all, and good drinkable. Very enjoyable, great stout...

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2014 The first really big stout in Belgium since 1995, can be considered as a kind of atypical imperial, but a mighty ale in its own right and a popular Wallonian classic. Dense, yellowish beige head, becoming thinner and eventually breaking under influence of the alcohol. Almost black colour with burgundy hue. Powerful, complex aroma of deep dark maltiness, aromatic hops, chocolate, sweet apple, candied cherries, hazelnuts, liquorice, sweet sherry and candi syrup. Sweet but not sticky in the mouth, very chocolatey, raisins, liquorice, caramel, smooth and a bit oily, soft and gradual bitterness appearing later, coffee-like roastedness but in a gentle kind of way and beautifully supported by flowery hops and warming alcohol; the initial candi-like sweetness lingers, but does not cloy. I have recently re-tasted this and it struck me that apparently they added smoked malts to the mash now, as it had a distinguished and unmistakable flavour of smoked meat to it. I have nothing against smoked beers but why not create a new beer for that, if you must have something smoky in your range? Never change a winning team!

Een typische stout met zijn heel uitgesproken smaak. Maar dat is niet echt mijn ding

Bottle: pours dark brown with tan head. I taste some semi- chocolate but not coffee. fairly mild beer overall taste wise. The booze seems pretty hidden too. Good beer, but I can find stouts I like more for less money.
