COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

Bottle. Black with a small beige head. Chocolate dominates the aroma, slight coffee and alcohol as well. Roasted/burnt, old coffee, tart notes, to high bitterness for the flavour Medium body, high carbonation, dry. Long bitter, peppery after taste.

Bottle @ unibirra.

Pours an opaque dark brown chestnut with a tan head that settles to a film and leaves little lacing. The nose is roasty with some molasses and dark fruits. Very smooth. Some molasses and a bit of sweetness is represented in the taste also, along with some roastiness, cocoa and raisin and fig fruitiness. Hints of espresso, anise and some alcohol. Finishes mostly dry with a soft moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth with a light/medium body and light carbonation. Really nice and refined flavors. Fine example of a stout with Belgian yeast adding some fruitiness. With a bigger mouthfeel and perhaps a bit more carbonation, this would be stellar.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours pitch black with a cream head and dark fruits on the nose. Taste presents lovely toasty flavours, some soothing dark chocolate and a little coffee coming out the shadows before a beautiful bitterness on the finish. A truly beautiful stout.

Positive surprise is how dry the beer is. Not sweet at all. Problem with some stouts is that they are too sweet to my taste.

Poured a hazy dark brown with a bubbly tan head and some broken lace. The aroma is light roasted malt, light fruit. The flavour is medium bitter with a thin malt hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
