The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

Excellente Stout !

Pours a very deep brown body with a creamy, beige, long-lived head that laces the glass very well. The aroma is a bit confusing, what style of beer is this? It’s called a stout, but to me the aroma feels closer to a Belgian strong ale, at least I find distinct notes of Belgian yeast. There are stout-ish notes as well, I get plenty of roasted notes with coffee. It’s a very fruity brew, with lots of dark dried fruits and dark berries. The strong flavour follows the aroma, with additional notes of liquorice and alcohol. The fruity notes feels Belgian yeasty, not hoppy. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Full body, pretty soft carbonation. A good Belgian strong ale with an extra dose of roasted malt.

On tap in Brussels. Pours a dark brown color, topped with a hefty beige colored head that has amazing retention. Slight roasty aroma, lots of coffee notes and some chocolate. Taste starts with some sweetness, chocolatey, followed by a mild roasted and coffee body and very mild bittery feel in the end. Smooth.

Bottle bought in Belgium. Dark brown with a small bubbly head. Has a healthy nose, but a slightly understated roasted malt taste. Has a decent smoothness to its texture.

330cc bottle. Not the typical imperial stout. The usual aromas/flavours are there but below "belginess" in a good way. Yeast, spice notes. Really a very pleasant dark ale Belgian style stout.

Pours dark brown with a large off-white solid head. Aroma- milky coffee, liquorice, smooth chocolate. Taste- coffee, blackcurrant, dark fruit hints, milk chocolate, cocoa. Smooth in the mouth, not as full-bodied as expected. Good stuff.

Not quite what I have come to expect from the style. Pours dark with beige bubbly head which doesn’t last but leave lacing in the glass as you go. Aroma isn’t overly interesting, slightly roasted malt, oak and vegetable notes. Taste is lightly fruity sweet and earthy bitter. Feels rather thin and watery in the mouth, nothing like the massive slick oily sensation you normally get. Overall it is certainly drinkable and not bad but at the price I paid for a bottle i was left a little disappointed.

Bottled during Brussels vacation. Hazy dark brown with beige head. Aroma has roasted malt, cacao, smoke and alcohol. Taste is roasty, lighter than expected, coffee, cacao, yeast, burnt notes and some acidity. Unusual but pretty cool
