4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Opaque with a cream coloured head. Complex fruity aroma; cherry, slightly vinous, some vanilla. Sammy Smith Oatmeal-like in its fruiyt, vinous aroma and smooth, well rounded flavour. The 9% alcohol content is covered up so well by the velvety, smooth, Belgian fruity yeast notes and a nice vinous chocolatness as well. I'm a huge fan!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
take a typical stout nose and add ripe belgian fruit. A bit of alcohol, rasions, its reminding me of a trappist stout cross. Head looked the same color as those M&Ms replaced by the blue color around 93. very black, slight grey hues. very full bodied, no thin spots. fruity yeasty charecter and the typical belgian wierdness that floats on top of a normal stout backbone. incredible job masking the 9.0 abv

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 12, 2004 2/13/04: Best by end of 2002 says the bottle. Still pours with a robust coffee black with a thin tan head. Good complexity of dark fruits, Belgian yeast and candi sugar in the aroma. Body is sugary sweet, yeasty and dry with some roasted malt showing up in the finish. I'm not sure if aging has helped this, as it has lost some of its body and become more sugary as opposed to malty. Still goes down very smooth and remains one of the more unique imperials out there.
1/13/03: This pours a very dark brown with a thin cream colored head. Has a slightly sweet raisin and date aroma with a touch of roasted malt. The smell also reminds me of Marsala cooking wine. The body is quite interesting...it starts out with a burnt black maltiness, but finishes with a good roasty flavor. Definitely its own style and quite drinkable/enjoyable at that.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A very sweet and alcoholic nose. There are definitely no American qualities in this stout that I can perceive. Nothing to compare this brew to so it gets good points for uniqueness. Otherwise nothing extraordinary and I’ve had much better Imperial stouts before.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAR 8, 2003 Very unique stout. Interesting vinuous sweet aroma (cherries, tartness, grapes) with coffee and a touch of chocolate. Earthy notes also round out the aroma. Flavor is sweet with a really nice coffee finish. Nice stuff.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Small sustaining head atop black/brown body. Roasty coffee, chocolate, and dark cherry nose with some cobweb yeastieness that is normally reserved for other belgian styles, very interesting for a stout. Nice soft mouthfeel with laots of dark chocolate, coffee, a touch of cherry cordial wraping up with a little alcohol burn. Mouthfeel starts off kinda thin but thickens in mid-step.

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Light toaste malt nose - pleasant. Opaque black color and a nice tan head. Toasted, smokey malt tastes with hints of chocolate. Not very bitter or dry, but an excellent flavor profile. Heavy body and a very clean palate.
