3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a flip top bottle. Pours out dark brown almost black topped with a long lasting sand head. Aroma lots of sweet malts, dark chocolate, and coffee. Taste is about the same as the aroma with lots of sweetness and a nice touch of coffee.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Continental, Preston. Pours black with a thick tan head. Roasted coffee and dark chocolate aromas, some dark sugar. Taste has light sweetness and more roast. Quite thin though, and doesn’t linger. Not bad.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 33cL. A dark brown beer with a medium head. Light can’t go through. Poor persistance of the foam. Aroma of caramel, toast, coffee, fruit (blackberry). Medium to heavy refreshing bitter and medium sweet. Medium body and texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish with warming notes. Overall, powerful character with delicate aroma. Cheers !

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
3rd Feb 2014: bottle in Cambrinus, Brugge. This is one of the most reviewed Belgian beers I hadn’t tried, so decided to rectify the fact by having one.
Black to very dark brown: good foam cap of tanned bubbles, looks like a Stout, what a surprise.
Chocolate and ground coffee esters hit the nose as you pour the beer, some dark fruit notes as well.
Taste carries on with the aromas now turning into flavours, dark chocolate, coffee, those dark fruits and now an alcoholic trace and a mild bitterness towards the end of each sip.
Almost creamy feel to the brew body wise.
Classic stout in all aspects and very drinkable.

1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Darker brown color - light comes through around the edges. Little off-white head. Cola, root, and spice in the nose... A lot of old, gross musty hop in the flavor. Definitely that a lot of that unpleasant old-hop flavors that a lot of years-old belgian beers have. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, just a big astringent lingering bad taste in the mouth. A lot of root beer type flavors, that part I don’t really mind, kind of interesting. But everything else about this is pretty unpleasant right now. Some dark fruit, raisin. Bigger body. Kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Very dry finish. Very unpleasant. A shame, because rates indicate that this is supposed to be very good fresh. This is way worse than your typical old-ass American imperial stout, though. By far the worst out of the 7 beers I tasted today at Ei8ht Ball. Kept lowering the score with each sip, didn’t end up finishing my 4oz. Poor aroma lingers quite a bit in the aftertaste.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ Wellington Arms, Bedford. Pours darkest brown, almost black. A nice bit of tan head circles the glass. Smoke, salted caramel and hazelnut in the aroma. A bit of shellfish, almost like an oyster stout. Taste is standard sweet with strong bitter edges. Great beer, but is it quite worth the 9%?

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle @home. Pours black with a beige, adhesive head. Malty aroma. Taste malty, light bitterness with a smokey aftertaste. A very accessible stout, but maybe a bit too commonplace.
