3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle-deep dark brown with a foamy/sudsy off-white eggshell head. musty, yeasty and lighly funky nose with an undertone of roast and coca, but really smells more belgian than stout-ish. flavors are yeasty, funky with some roast-really hard to describe. palate is over-carbonated, which brings this experience down a bit. my notes for this are a bit hard to read-must have been during a long tasting night back in ST Louis! I will have this again im sure because i had wanted this one for years!

Bottle BB April 2013. Black, foamy light brown head. Not much lacing. Smell - dark fruits like cherry, chocolate, Fry’s Turkish Delight. Body - medium to light, light carbonation, foamy in the mouth. Taste - not a great deal going on - tangy fruits, cold milky tea, alcohol. Smell is the best part.

Belgian attempt to brew an IRS. They made it typicaly Belgian, sweet and full, with a less aggresive tone than its American counterpart. Nice.

Pours black with brown head. Aromas of fruit and yeast. Strong licorice taste. Well-balanced, but slightly watery. Light to medium body. Good, but nothing extraordinary.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pitch black with a solid frothy tan head. Noses of bread, burnt toast, roasted malts and light peat/turf soil. Rather mild texture light sweet with a faint salty note and light bitter. Full body with a pleasant finish lingering on the palate. Really good stout, well balanced.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Shared via Atheist Priest. Almost pitch black colour with a creamy tan coloured head. Big aroma with spice, roast a hint of pungent hops and something sweet. On the palate it is rich, roasted, bitter but there is this wonderfully dark fruit quality that makes this a complex brew. Very good stuff.

Dobre i tresciwe imerialne ciemne piwo. Geste i nieprzezroczyste. Fajna krachlowa butelka. Wspaniale wyglada i apetycznie. Ale za malo jak dla mnie nut palonych ciut slodkawe i za malo rozgrzewajacego alkoholu. Nie mniej jest to bardzo dobre piwo. Finisz pelny wytrawny i lekko palony.

I rate beers I think significantly better than average, simple as that. I am not into showing off through word games. :)

Only Belgian stout I’ve had. Don;t see how it differs from a non-Belgian imperial stout. I liked it. Not too think, softly carbonated. Very pleasant burnt malts tasting of chocolate, espresso and dried fruit. And pretty smooth, bitter hops.
