The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

This is a classic case of a beer having more bark than its bite. The nose is great - smoky, oatmeal, dark fruits. The palate is thin - really difficult to distinguish a flavor besides smoked malts. Appearance is nice and dark, not pitch black. Wish I got more out of this beer taste and palate-wise, but the nose and appearance save it.

Pours black with low light tan head. Aroma of dried fruit, brown sugar, molasses, hazelnut. Taste is sweet and chocolatey with a mikd herbal finish. Medium to full bodied and creamy with soft carbonation.

330ml bottle at the Head of Steam, Durham. Dark brown pour with a mocha head. Immediate chocolate and coffee aroma, with a touch of woodsmoke. Salty on the tongue at first, with flavours developing into woodsmoke, orange, a touch of cream, and a little liquor burn. Bitter dark chocolate lingers throughout, with a touch of aspirin on the aftertaste.

J’aime bien.
Note: 7/10

Pörkölt, feketekávés illat, a komló fűszerességével keverve. Ez fincsi! Fűszeres, leheletnyit édeskés, pörkölt jegyekkel. Intenzív, mégsincs túlzásba víve. Utóízében a komló, és a pörkölés érződik, mégpedig jó sokáig. Hmm.. szerintem egy kicsit ez is sós.

Bottle at the Dove, Broadway Market. Pours dark brown with a small off white head. Yeasty aroma with some malt and chocolate. Slightly sour on the palate, medium body and some serious soda stream style carbonation. Yeasty finish and some lasting bitterness. Not going to be revisiting this one anytime soon, basically a bit rubbish.

Taber hurtigt skum.
