3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
11.2 ounce swing-top bottle purchased over a year ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($7.29). Pours dark brown with a finger and a half of creamy head. Bright aroma of sweet (and somewhat candied) fruit, nuts, light chocolate, anise...and yes the commercial description is correct in that spruce and spice do jump out. Flavor has some mild roastiness (some chocolate, dark roasted malts) along with notes of dry leather, brown sugar, and dry tangy spice. The 9% is well concealed, though the mouthfeel comes across as surprisingly light. This is decidedly different, being both sweeter and less dark-roasty than most other imperial stouts. Okay stuff, but not sure how often I would really want to drink this. (711, 602)

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with brown head. Aromas of fruit and yeast. Strong licorice taste. Well-balanced, but slightly watery. Light to medium body. Good, but nothing extraordinary.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pitch black with a solid frothy tan head. Noses of bread, burnt toast, roasted malts and light peat/turf soil. Rather mild texture light sweet with a faint salty note and light bitter. Full body with a pleasant finish lingering on the palate. Really good stout, well balanced.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Shared via Atheist Priest. Almost pitch black colour with a creamy tan coloured head. Big aroma with spice, roast a hint of pungent hops and something sweet. On the palate it is rich, roasted, bitter but there is this wonderfully dark fruit quality that makes this a complex brew. Very good stuff.

Dobre i tresciwe imerialne ciemne piwo. Geste i nieprzezroczyste. Fajna krachlowa butelka. Wspaniale wyglada i apetycznie. Ale za malo jak dla mnie nut palonych ciut slodkawe i za malo rozgrzewajacego alkoholu. Nie mniej jest to bardzo dobre piwo. Finisz pelny wytrawny i lekko palony.

Tap @ Belgian Brasseie Henri. Clear, reddish black color, long-life small beige head, roasted and fruity aroma, medium body, smooth fizziness, coffee sour and slight malty sweet taste, dry alcoholic palate with vanilla and coffee notes.

I rate beers I think significantly better than average, simple as that. I am not into showing off through word games. :)

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Only Belgian stout I’ve had. Don;t see how it differs from a non-Belgian imperial stout. I liked it. Not too think, softly carbonated. Very pleasant burnt malts tasting of chocolate, espresso and dried fruit. And pretty smooth, bitter hops.

Une bière foncée, puissante aux arômes de café marqués. Légère finale de réglisse.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black-bodied, with caramel browned head. Despite the absence of spicing, intense notes of sassafrass and minty woodruff emanate from the glass, intermingling with sharpy oaky notes and a smooth, debittered roast. Similarly, intense sassafrass and minty notes confuse the palate, creating a root beer like flavor experience. An interesting brew that is sort of Belgian Stout meets Traditional Ale.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle @ Bishops Arms Bellmansgatan
App: Dark brow to black, muddy, big porous beige head, nice lacings.
Aroma: Wax, plastic, Play Doh, burnt bread, some chocolate. Subdued waxy malty aroma.
Taste: Roasted with some acidity, dark berries, apple, lemon and murky coffee.
Palate: Medium, soft but slight tickling bubbles, smooth texture, a bit weak.
Overall: Don’t see the greatness. To me it just comes out as thin, acidic and with a boring aroma.
