3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - FEB 21, 2003
The beer pours a bemused orange color, the head portly and the consistency frothy and off white in color. The aroma of caramel apples, sweet and inviting, with a nice malt underpinning to seal off the nose. Ambrosial at the start, the top middling in feel, the finish smartly acidic, the hops pleasing and delicious in their understated presence, dry as a desert bone aftertaste that lingers on. Quite an interesting beer that is a real treat to the palate.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MilkmanDan (1943) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - NOV 28, 2002
Maaaaaalty. Cloudy tea color. Head very sticky, lasted a while. Was a two-color head, partially white, partially more cream colored. Malty nose, kinda spicy. Flavor again quite sweet. Very malty, similar to chowing on malted milk balls. Has toffee and caramel as it warms, with candy sugar noticeable. Zippy and fizzy, makes the ol’ tongue tingle. A good example of a darker Belgian ale.

Chock full of ruit esters, nice foam and good off golden color. Opens up warm. Bready, cookie aromas -- good hop balance, nice creamy feel, a fair amount of yeastiness. Some alcohol tobaccoey pepper at the end of some nice honeyish candy sugar flavors. Outstanding.

Very much like the Vervifontaine Rousse. Sweet amber nose. Bit malts in the taste, together with the fruity amber. Alcohol moderately present. I like this one more than the Hercule Stout.
