3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 19, 2009 22oz. Bottle (11.5%ABV): Aroma of toasted malts and a hint of hops. Poured orange/amber in color with a small, creamy, beige head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Slightly sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is lightly bitter and lightly sweet. Tastes of toasted malt, hops, and the slightest hint of tropical fruit. Medium body. Oily, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Hops, toasted malt, and slight tropical fruit finish is lightly dry. 11.5%ABV is very well hidden. Definitely an APA not a IIPA.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. I thoroughly enjoyed this, despite the 20.9 percentile ranking that it has at the time of this ranking. Amber pour, yellowish tint at the edges. It has a boozy scent to it, the scent is probably the worst part about the beer, if I had to pick an attribute. Despite the boozy smell though, the taste is crisp and smooth, and thereís no hint of the 11.5% ABV (I realize the ABV at the top of the page says 9%, but this is 11.5%). Not amazingly hoppy bitter, but a nice mix of hops and citrusy flavor. A very drinkable IPA, something that I would definitely recommend to my non-IPA drinking friends. Whether thatís a good or bad thing - thatís for you to decide.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
From a 22 oz bottle...
Cloudy, hazy copper/orange color. Thin head that thins out and leaves a frosty lace. Very cloudy and thick-looking.
The smell is strong, fragrant, flowery pale ale aroma. Citrus/orange pale malt. Deep, stingy dark malts. Smoldering, sour fragrance like a deep brandy. Complex, beautiful.
The malt flavor is pure sour mash, followed by heavy hops. A blast of flavors: sour, rich, dark, sweet. Tons of bitter pale, citrus/estery hops. Lots of sour, bitter liqueur malts.
The feel is heavy, thick and milky. This drink warms the insides like brandy. A hoppy treasure. One of the best beers I have had in a long time... maybe ever.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
0.65l - Hazy orange with thin tan head, sourness and nutty yeast on nose. Flavor is not what Iíd expect from an IPA. Drinks more like a sour ale. Nice product, but no IPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber. Pours a clear copper body with a medium sized, long lasting off white head. Good lacing. Sweet tangerine, hoppy, slight alcohol aroma. Also really mellow sweet hoppy flavor. Alcohol is hidden well. Malty sugar finish. Missing that hop bite, but still a really good DIPA from a relatively small brewery. I would have really enjoyed this whole bomber, too bad I spilled half all over my desk.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle served at flour city beer fest in rochester, ny. I swear it said imperial pale ale and not india pal ale...filtered clear amber color, thin ring of suds resting above. Sweet, molassis nose with a bit of a piney hop overtone...candyish overall in the nose, id say. The rest can be summed up as follows: hot, sticky, malty, and hoppy. Resiny hops, syrupy molassis malts combine quite scorshingly hot. Its drinkable, donít get me wrong...but hot and syrupy are not adjectives that are at all related with the phrase "will drink again".

Original review date 7/7/2008...
Bomber from Consumer Beverage in Amherst - into a big-@$$ Red Oak mug. Letís see what happens...
This has the look of a classic DIPA. Sudsy, bountiful head with a few muffin tunnels. Has staying power and solid lacing. Body is a little cloudy with amber, light copper and orange zest tones.
Lots of grapefruit on the nose with sweet caramel malt. Alcohol and sweetness creates wonderful balance and viscosity.
This has qualities similar to its next-door neighbor, Southern Tier Unearthly. Lots of meat on the bone - floral hops, caramel malty backbone with some decent alcohol kick to be putting it together. Oily oily oily - excellent!
Slithers down the throat to create an extra long, well-balanced finish - the tang of the hops is coated with heavy, oily, viscous malt and alcohol.
I was curious when I couldnít find this on BA - then I realized it was under the generic ImPA moniker. A hop-bomb sledgehammer, this is - one of the best Iíve tried ever. 11.5% (?) ABV, but drinks as well as a Ruination. Gotta get back to the 716 and get more of this!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Pours a low carbed copper amber and a very thin head. Aroma is green hops , light acetaldehyde, earthy, dms in the malts come through, old cheesy stale hop and light citrus mint hints. Flavor is mint, citrus, lemon zest, orange lots of caramel malt to hie whatever hops might be hiding, toasty malts, slight oxidation- , tacky caramel, orange zest, toffee, and just a lackluster DIPA with low hops and fairly syrupy to try to cover the alcohol. Meh.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured a clear deep gold color with a thin off-white head. The aroma was sweet, earthy and dirty with some citrus hops as well. Sweet malt flavor with citrus hop notes. Bitter finish. Mild warming sensation in the chest.
