A bold and hoppy golden ale, the house IPA recipe employs the technique of "first wort hopping" to infuse this NW classic with all manner of hop goodness.

I have to rate this strictly from notes - I liked it and thought it was an above average IPA, but not memorable. Very bitter to start, mildy smoky hops flavor. dry finish.

bitbucket (2082) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - JUN 14, 2009
On tap at the West Seattle location.
Regular: Pours clear dark gold with a dense, lacy white head. Light citrus and toffee nose, lighter than their APA??? Medium light body, nearly still. Toffee and citrus taste with a lingering pine and earth finish.
Dry-hopped: Pours clear dark gold with a dense, lacy white head. Sweet citrus aroma. Medium light body, nearly still. Toffee and grapefruit taste with a lingering pine finish.

The regular version is reasonably good, but doesn’t take advantage of the hop characteristics I like most. The dry-hopped version is significantly better. Don’t know why the brewer considers both to be the same. (This rating is for the dry-hopped version. The regular gets 7/4/6/3/14.)

Angeloregon (2054) - Portland, Oregon, USA - SEP 24, 2008
Orange-copper-sienna body with medium whitish top. Mildly floral, bicuity nose on the malty side for an IPA. Another English-style offering from EB. Very drinkable. Not very bitter. More residual maltiness than hoppiness. Well balanced beer.

Draught @ Elliott Bay Brewery and Pub. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Malty hoppy citrus aroma. Fruity malty hoppy bitter flavor with hints of citrus. Fruity malty hoppy finish with a bitter aftertaste.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2008 Nonic Pint at the California ave brewpub. Pour is orange copper with a white head. Aroma of not too much, though a bit of pine hops did poke through. Taste has a lot of pine resin all the way through. Malt balances it a bit. Overall, a nice IPA.

Also had the Dry Hop version. On tap at the brewpub. I had this side by side with the regular IPA. The biggest difference between the two was in the aroma. Were the straight IPA was somewhat muted, the Dry Hopped had a big pine, orange peel and resin aroma. Appearance was orange copper with a white head. Taste is a lot drier than the normal IPA, and this causes all of the hop elements to be emphasized (a bunch of resin, orange peel, pine). This does throw the balance off a bit, though this version of their IPA was better.

after4ever (4500) - Brier, Washington, USA - SEP 3, 2007
Draft at the California Avenue brewpub. Pours medium amber, bit hazy, with a thin orange-y/tan head. Nice nutty/grapefruity nose. Medium body with firm tingling carb; quenching and refreshing as soon as you tilt the glass. Nice subdued malt backbone under a beautifully fresh grapefruit hop swirl in the mid-palate. Clean but biting hop finish. Very solid session IPA.

On tap at Brewpub Seattle. Pours out a ligth amberish topped with a small head. A GREAT aroma of hops (dry hop will do that) As for the tast not as good as the aroma. But still not that bad.
