This one is pretty self explanatory: Itís RED. A judicious amount of Honey Malt gives this beer its distinctive honey/cherry sweetnes. The malt also contributes to the slightly sour/acidic taste of this beer. There are some hops in there, but the hop flavor and aroma is practically non-existent. This also helps accentuate the sweet character of this beer.

Aiming for de koninck but doing it the wrong way, with high temperature (maybe, Iím guessing), leading to overly estery, phenolic character.

On tap @ Elliott Bay West Seattle. Pours cloudy reddish amber with very thin white head. Aroma is sweet fruity light caramel malt. Taste is medium caramel malt, heavy cloying berry fruit notes, and dry very lightly hopped finish. Some good notes here, but really unbalanced and the fruit is applied with a heavy hand. A bit strange to find this in a "red" at any rate. Quite a departure from a regular red.

Draft - Sweet cherry, perfume and some Belgian yeast. Cloudy reddish orange with. A decent white head. Malty, cherry and a long cherry finish. Odd, but I like it. Like a weak Flemish red.

Dark amber with a dark nose of raisin and earthy nougat and some dusty caramel. Flavor is surprisingly light with some dark caramel and honey tones. Kinda indifferent.

Draught in a flight at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber color. Nose has some definite bread elements to it, and a bit of sourness to it. Taste is slightly toasty, and is slightly sweet. Not bad.

Serving: from tap at Elliott Bay Brewhouse and Pub Aroma: light apple aroma. Appearance: almost no initial head with no lacing. Clear, dark-orange body. Taste: lightly sweet initial flavor and moderately sour, apple finish with long duration. Palate: medium bodied with dry texture and lively carbonation. Overall: very good. Easy to drink with a unique taste.

Whisky barrel aged version Tap at the brewery.

Red wine and balsamic vinegar, mildly sweet, cherries, layered over with whisky and vanilla. Tasty, genuine Flemish style red, but not something Iíd want more than one of.

Nose is rather sweet and super fruity. Very nice. Dark fruits, a touch of spice from the yeast, a little pepper. Enjoyable nose, almost teriyaki-y in a sense. Pours dark reddish brown, thinnish head, brown hues underneath. Flavors of sweet dark fruit, almost cherry like, some toast, a touch of salty notes, lightly spicy. Dry, sweet toasty finish. Really solid, enjoyable beer.
