COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed to commemorate the 1999 WTO fiasco in Seattle, this 8% strong pale ale is legendary. Come taste what all the fuss is about.

Tap at LCW. Brewery lists this as an imperial IPA, not an American Strong. I’d concur.

Pine-heavy, very bitter citrus peel. Smooth mouthfeel. Little sign of the malts in this one, hence the style judgement. Almost identical in color to highline IPA, but substantially more enjoyable.

Sample at Hale’s in Seattle. This brew pours a hazy amber-orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of ripe fruit, caramel and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of dark malt, grapefruit and hops. The finish is fruity with an earthy malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at Elliot Bay, Lake City. Best of the flight, tasty beer. Creamy dark orange, hoppy amber malts. Drying finish, with decent hop flavor. Not going too far outside the box but it nails it.

bvc (1141) - Kenmore, Washington, USA - MAY 2, 2012
Draft at lake city brewpub. Pours a unfiltered hazed orangish caramel gold with a dense yet small off white had that leaves behind some lacing. Mostly orange/citrus hops up front, mellow, with light pine earthiness, touch of jammy sweetness with a darker doughy malt character. Tight carbonation with light chewiness in the feel. Peppery, hints of orange marmalade and wheat dough. Finishes dry with a bit of bittering and the 8% isn’t really noticeable.

Draft at Uber. Pours a crystal clear paler amber with a light sudsy white head. Big fresh grapefruit nose, very inviting. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Mid palate shows toast, caramel, and grapefruit. Crisp finish. Appealing and drinkable.

This was a very nice and highly hoppy and bitter red ale, almost like an imperial red. The dry hopping really comes through in the taste but is not overwhelming.

Nice citrus and piney aroma with notes of caramel and pale malt sweetness. Pours golden orange with a decently whispy head and light lace. The flavor is a blast of piney and citrus hops up front followed by a moderate malt sweetness - caramel and pale malts, light residual sugar notes and a medium-big pine bitterness in the finish. Lingering hoppy resins and bitterness. Nice drinker, creamy body. Well done.

UPDATED: OCT 19, 2009 This was the fresh hopped version. Aroma is lightly citrusy and a little toasty. Has more of a sweet toasty malt flavor than most pales with a grassy, citrus hop finish. Pretty good, but out of all the various pales I’ve had from Elliot Bay it’s the one I liked the least.

Flavor: Big IPA flavor this was a great IPA.
Palate: Dry IPA finish, with a good spicy Mouthfeel.
Overall: Big IPA beer this is a great beer. This was a the Dry hopped version.

This was definitely the best beer they had on tap. Nice hoppy pine aroma, with lots of grapefruit, with some caramel maltiness. Not a strong ale persay in my opinion, but turn kind of weak in the finish. Could be much better.
