0.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 BBB63 (5026) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - JAN 23, 2007
Bottle and served in a standard pint glass: A deep amber orangy hue with almost no head nor lace. The aroma has some notes of citrus, carmel, toffee, walnut, and some earthy yeast esters. THEN CAME THE TASTE... YUCK!!! There is an awful sourness and sulfuric character that makes this beer undrinkable. Now that I have read other ratings, it appears I am not the first the have this bad experience with this "beer". DRAIN POUR.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 15, 2007
Pours a solid hazy brown color, way too dark for an ’amber.’ A thick head of tan foam reduces to just a film in a couple minutes. No lacing. There is a mild malty aroma, but I also find a whiff of sauermalt, which really seems out of place.
The taste is initially malty with a mild toasted grain flavor. This is followed by some sugary sweetness. There is a mild hop presence in the finish. No sauermalt flavor - that was only in the aroma.
Body on the light side, with mild but very fizzy carbonation. Somewhat thin but balanced.
1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 DJC (238) - USA - NOV 10, 2006
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2006 Cloudy, amber/brown color, and slight off-white head. The aroma reminds me of apple cider, and the initial flavor does, too. Once the cider flavor is gone, caramel notes emerge, and that’s followed by mild coffee. Interesting, but I won’t be a repeat customer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 GeneralGao (3545) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - SEP 10, 2006
UPDATED: NOV 6, 2006 Draught at the 2006 Iowa City Brew Fest and again at Old Chicago in Coralville, IA. Clear copper orange color with off white head that laced the glass. Aroma was buttery caramel and toffee with light sprucy hops. Tasted of caramel, light brown sugar, and a touch of spicy black pepper. Second try was better than the first.
0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 BigBastard (668) - L.A., California, USA - JUN 26, 2006
I see from other reviews that I’m not the only one who hated this. I though tit might have been a bad bottle. Extrememly sour aroma and flavor, I actually pured it out it was horrible. I hope it was just a bad batch.
0.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - FEB 5, 2006
In the bottle purchased in Peoria IL. Pours a very dark amber color, brown in fact. The head was very unusual for a commercial beer: super explosive and filled a 0.5L mug instantly with off-white foam before even a quarter of the beer could be poured. The foam aroma was of sorgum, but as the head subsided, an acidic burning aroma emerged. The taste is DISGUSTING: extremely tart and sour with little sweetness or any maltiness resembling beer. My guess is that I’m tasting a very bad bacterial infection of some sort that generated the acidic by-products of tartness and overcarbonation. The unusual thing is that there is no sulfur thiols producing a rotten egg smell. Since I was interested in a beer and not a microbiology project, I proceeded to pour my very first Ratebeer beer down the sink. BUYER BEWARE!
0.8 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20 RooftopRogue (423) - Champaign, Illinois, USA - DEC 11, 2005
The smell of stinky feet asserts itself out of the glass. The glass fills with a copper colored solution that rests under a big thick head. This beer tastes like the worst medicine your mom made you take when you where child.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 heemer77 (4794) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - SEP 24, 2005
This poured with a medium orange body. The aroma had flowers, orange peels and a hint of caramel. The taste had toffee and dirt dominating. Then there was old apple core and hint of cardboard. Sampled at the 2005 Iowa City Beer Festival.
