3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap taster at St Augustine’s in Vancouver. A very dark almost black beer with a light tan head and lacing, with a fruity and roasted nose. Fruity for sure, faintly raspberry, malty, low bitterness. More raspberry on the finish. 3.3.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, shared by phantomhennes on game night. Medium-dark brown, lively tan head that settles into a thick pad. Fresh tart raspberry is very subtle, dark cacao chocolate, mild roast without any ashiness. The raspberry is very genuine and somewhat understated, which serves this beer well. Very tasty.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber. Pours a ruddy black color with a medium light brown head. A big chocolate and light berry nose. The flavor is sweet raspberries, coffee, dark chocolates. I’m not getting a ton of Belgian yeast in it. The overall flavor is super sweet berries and light stout flavors. Pretty good.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Black color, compact head. Mild aroma of roasted malts and cardboard. Roasted malt flavor, rather dry, also more body was expected given the high ABV, and once more the raspberries add nothing g good to black beers, as their tartness doesn’t blend with the roasted malts.
Could be an OK beer for somebody, but the result is cacophonous.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
August 13th, 2013 - Elysian’s Omen has rolled down the hills from Adelphi, destined for my glass, where it bubbles and froths above, and below sits murkily, dark and black. The smell is eager to express its raspberry notes, enough so to mask the chocolate, and it’s sweet enough that I feel as if I am huffing raspberry jam. The flavor is much like a frambozen, but the aftertaste brings in the kick of a stout at the end - deep, rich and malty. A cool blend, and unpredictable, in by prophets’ standards.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber. Roasted malt aroma with light hints of raspberry and Belgian yeast. Pours black with one finger of light brown head with excellent retention and decent lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavor and a slight hint of Belgian yeast. Finishes smooth with a bit of raspberry sweetness before the roasted malt takes over again in the end and lingers on the palate. Pretty good, but the other flavors are overwhelmed by the roastiness of the beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a moderate tan head on there. Nose is roasty with some hints of char and just a little bit of raspberry coming through. Taste is roasty and a bit sweet, but is much fruitier than the nose would suggest. Decent.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Good Dog. Black pour (that showed as a clear dark ruby under bright light) with a slight tight beige head. Without knowing any better, feels like an acidic dark stout. Expected coffee, chocolate, liquorice notes up front when cold. Some mild acetic notes off the top as well. Not until it warms do the dark red raspberry notes kick in - and it makes it feel a bit off. The raspberry flavor is not particularly strong to me but not getting the sense of true actual fruit here. Not terrible - but not the real thing. Wished I liked it better - but not, not, not.
