Interesting beer thatís for sure. On first taste on the front there is a lots of chocolate and burnt grains. Wait for it and the layers of heat kick in. The heat actually lingers for a while. Nice beer but is not something you want to have more than one pint of.

22oz bomber from Bayville Spirits shared after work (Christmas Squad beers round 2). Poured black with a small foamy tan head. Aroma of green peppers, dark chocolate, caramel, and roasted malt. Taste mimics the nose with distinct notes of green chilis, sweet milk chocolate, and a decent pepper burn in the finish. Lots of mixed reviews on this, but I was digging it.

"Strange that I wasnít feeling this one. New Belgium set the bar high for the choc/chili/cinnomon comco, and this beer falls well short of that one. similar components, but not the same end product. the spices/herbal aspect of the aroma especially is far too overpowering, and the chocolate is so subtle as to be a non-player. the complex chili flavor and a little heat do come on in the finish, which is the beers strong point, but the faults (lack of chocolate, thin) are a little greater than the strengths. ok, but nothing special."

Bottle from 16th Street Liquor, West Vancouver
This is probably one of the worst labels Iíve seen.
Black color, with small to no head. Aroma of dark malts, roasted pepper, raw chicken meat, medium percentage chocolate, light chili pepper. Lean mouthfeel, semi-dry; the chocolate flavor is quite nice, but the chili kick is probably a bit too much to really appreciate the beer, itís not exactly elegant; ordinary bitterness.

#4 of 12 in the Apocalypse Series.
From the bottle: Beer #4: PESTE Chocolate Chili Ale brewed with cocoa, cinnamon and a blend of chipotle, cayenne, ancho, guajillo and pasilla peppers.
Dark brown with a fleeting sheet of mocha foam. After a couple minutes, beer appears abysmally still. Smells of cinnamon, cocoa, coffee (black), and plenty of chili. Decent aroma, wish there was a hint of vanilla addition actually. Upon first taste, I think they may have overplayed the cinnamon, but after a time it started to grow on me. The sweet cocoa comes through in the finish, primarily due to the pronounced chili characters that come through - thereís a certain roasted tone to the chili lexicon here, methinks the blend is heavy in ancho and chipotle with a healthy cayenne dose. Medium over thin body with spritz carb and a warm and wet finish. I would prefer substantially more body in a beer this rich in flavor. Overall a tasty beer, and pending a couple adjustments, this would be a appropriately sought after beer IMO.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pour on tap, dark brownish black pour with thin tan head, aroma brought big dark cocoa, big cinnamon that borders on trashy, some roast, coffee, and caramel in there, the chilis bring a vegetal note as well, kind of odd. Taste is chocolate, roast, coffee, slight caramel, lots of spice and pepper notes combine to make an odd vegetal note, finishing roasted and chocolatey.

This beer, if you can call it that, tastes like ass. This has to be the worst beer I have ever had. My wife picked it up for me thinking I would like to try something different, and boy was she wrong. The chocolate chili thing has to be the worst combination for a beer. The strong spiciness in the finish, should never happen. Apocolypse was exactly what I was thinking as a I drank the first sips and then promptly poured the rest down the toilet. Pretty much all of the beers of the Apocolypse are so bad they had trouble giving them away up at Normís in Lake Stevens. Yet, for some reason beer raters canít seem to rate them below a 2.5. Hereís a tip. If you donít like a beer, give it a .5 rating like me. Donít try to logically go through and evaluate each point, so that you come up with a 2.5 rating, and then go on about how it has floral notes or some crap. Beers that suck should show a rating like they suck, even if it comes from a craft brewery with a reputation. Tell the king he has no clothes.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours brown with a thin tan head.
Chocolate, spicy chile aroma.
Taste is sweet orange, powdered chocolate and intense chile.
Very bold...the strong ,sweet orange is nice stacked up against the burn...which stings a bit.
