I hope it was the strange sugar beet taste that offered all of the cloying issues in evidence in this beer. A friend tried this and took it back to the bar. I didn’t think that was entirely necessary, but for even for a bock, this is way too sweet. Tried in NYC in 2013.

Bottle:   Reddish in color, moderate off-white head, slight pink hue, decent lacing, light carbonation.   Soft bready nose, seems a bit sweet, and perhaps sweet in the pickled beet arena.   It does have a slight vegetal aspect on the tongue, very much like pickled beets but not tart, instead lightly sweet.   Low hop bitterness, minor bready background.   Very pale overall.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   A very light bock overall, with an interesting and different flavor with the beets.

22oz bottle. Pours a bright ruby red color with a one finger off white head that dissipates slowly. Earthy aroma with a very light tinge of sourness and a definite beet character. Flavor is fresh beets, sweet and biscuit malt, spicy hops. The beet flavor plays well off the the dry biscuit malt flavor. Finish is slightly astringent. Medium body with aggressive carbonation and a dry finish.

Bottle - Believe it or not it smells like beets right from the ground. Earthy, spicy and fruity sweet. Reddish amber with a frothy head. Earthy and of course beets, but the sweetness is cut with hoppy bitterness that reminds you this is a beer. Definitely not one I would want again, but an interesting beer that does credit to the beet without losing the fact it is a beer.

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. This poured pretty much red alnd had a beige head with pink tinges in the bubbles. The nose showed beets along with citrus and floral hops. The flavor was of fruit and floral/citrus hops along with the beets. Light bitter finish. Really unique and very tasty beer.

Bomber from Hayduke. We had an interrupted tasting of it together via facebook chat. The poured red and wore a thick beige head longer than my patience cared for. I got the beets in the aroma. Beets were also tasted. Some nice hops too. They brought fruit and floral notes. This was bitter throughout and it seemed to have some spice to it. There was also some graininess to it. Beets in a beer? Big kudos for originality. I liked it.

On tap at the bocktown robinson, nice ber tasting place. A slight reddish maroon beer. Not much aroma but possibly a mildly barely detectable olfactory. Think about pulling a beet out of the ground at yer ancestors farm and then biting into it without rinsing it off. No lie. After the beet there is this typical ale thing going on. Very unique fer sure. Finoshes off with a back of throat bitter finish. Yes each taste is a dirty beet folowed by a back pf throat medicinal finsih. Quite unique, why hasn’t other beer companies inthe US thought about usin beets.

Kind of bizarre but very smooth. The pour is a shiny copper with a white head & a touch of lacing. The aroma is pretty weak. The flavor is very clean & finishes w/ a strange indescribable taste. Quite odd!

draft at blue Monk. beautiful beer with hint of blood red that glows in light. nice substantial white head. Beets shine here if you like them. earthy beefiness are dominate here. Havent had beets in awhile but they shine here. Very cool beer......if you like beets

Extra points for a unique beet-flavoured beer that really shines entirely for the odd choice of vegetable. I’m not a huge beet fan but this did taste exactly like beets, though did not come out too strong. Probably guaranteed to taste awful to those who hate the beet, and indeed it’s lacking in complexity, but it’s not such a bad experiment overall.
