Down, down, down Maelstrom will go, pulling the hapless beer enthusiast in with a beguiling blend of blood orange, Northwest hops and sweet orange peel. Stray to close and you may not escape the currents of this tender trap. Blood orange provides tartness and the blush of a brazen sea, Citra and amarillo hops from the Yakima Valley offer bite and aroma, and orange peel suggests a little something else on the wind. Maelstrom is brewed with pale, Munich and Dextri-pils malts bittered with German Northern Brewer and finished and dry-hopped with Citra and Amarillo.

On draught at Collins Pub in Seattle. The beer pours a murky reddish-orange color with a minimal white head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, malt and hops. Medium body with a sweet fruity flavor consisting primarily of tangerine and orange. Notes of sweet malt and herbal hops as well. The finish is fruity up front with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Poured from bottle from LetsPour. Pours an opaque, creamy yellow-orange with a small head and a delicious scent of citrus. The citrus is very pronounced but it is very well balanced with the other flavors of the beer. Good but not my favorite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

1/4 inch lacy white head. Cloudy bright orange color. Light loose sediment. Mild hop mild floral ester orange peel front. Medium light textured slightly creamy orange flavored smooth body. Slightly tangy bitter hint mild hop spice end. Pretty easy to drink. Mild hops and a touch bland. Wierd like all the Apocalypse Series.

Bottle. Pours an opaque golden yellow with medium white head. Aroma of piny hops, oranges, and lemons. Flavor is of oranges and very bitter piny hops. Heavy mouth feel. I like it, but a bit too bitter for my tastes.

Draft - Grain, citrus and bitter grapefruit on the nose. Cloudy orange with a huge thick fluffy white head. Taste is sweet with an immediate bitterness and citrus flavour. Rather than the sweetness of the orange I just get the bitterness of the pith. I finally get the blood orange in the finish. Refreshing and bitter, but not really all that tasty.

Bomber poured a cloudy gold with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of blood orange, bread and lemon zest. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, blood orange and light lemon zest with a smooth dry bitter lingering citrus finish.

22. Pours a murky medium toffeeish orange with a dense and creamy whitish head. Pleasant fresh fruit nose, clearly showing the oranges. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Bitter grapefruitiness of the blood orange underneath the more familiar sweet citrus flavor. Mostly a showcase for the fruit. Mild dry finish. Good stuff.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Hazy, a touch peachy orange appearance with a big fluffy, cream colored head. Fairly yeasty, spicy/citrusy hoppy, orange peel, somewhat bitter, grapefruity aroma. Tangy, bitter orange, citrus zest, chewy yeasty, somewhat spicy, bready, bitter citrus hoppy flavor. Actually, quite spicy which was a bit unexpected and the hop content was quite high. Not exactly my thing, but it’s drinkable.
