corby112 (677), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 26, 2009 Pours a hazy dark golden color with light orange and dark ripe banana yellow hues when held to light source. 1.5 finger frothy white head that slowly fades into a lasting cap that leaves chuny rings of soapy lacing throughout my pint glass.
Floral/citrus hop aroma with hints of lavender, honey, grapefruit, citrus peel honey and caramel malt backbone. The floral hop and flower petal notes provide a nice balance to the west coast style citrus hop presence that normally dominates this kind of DIPA.
Creamy medium body with a nice bitter hop presence that is mellowed out by silky maltiness and nice floral presence. Slight alcohol presence with a sweet and slightly dry finish.
This beer has a very nice west coast style citrus hop blast that is very well balanced by a honeysuckle flower petal presence and slight malt backbone. Also, there is a nice crisp light fruit presence of apple and pear as well as a nice alcohol astringency which is quite pleasant without any burn.
Elysian Avatar Jasmine is very comlex and unique and probably the best beer I’ve had yet that contains flowers as an ingredient. I highly recommend it to anyone who is into west coast style IPAs and is looking for something different. DaSilky1 (1933), San Diego, California, USA Aug 22, 2009 smells like either it’s been sitting on the shelf for a while or the jasmine has come out in the aroma in extreme sweetness, or maybe a little combination of both...so, the nose is basically thickly sugary and floral...but i swear it smells aged...then i looked at the beer and saw the billions of tiny little floaters suspended everywhere...yeah, aged...and not on purpose I’m, sure...but since i dont know for a fact its aged, im rating it regardless, so you can suck it. Flavors are thick sweet jasmine age. thick, sweet, jasmine, and time...nothing more to say...oh wait, yeah...it has an unedible flower like astringency in the finish. not good... badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Aug 18, 2009 Clear golden with a fizzy white head. Grapefruit pineapple and jasmine aroma and taste with moderate bitterness. Nena (120), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 9, 2009 Light orange with a small white head. Aroma is powerfully perfumy from the jasmine. Flavor is also quite flowery and a tad sweet, with the hops being further in the background than I’d expect from an IPA. Very light and easy to drink. Appearance: amber with gold , mid plus fine creamy top. Good lace 3+ Nose: flowery , mild spice , hint of anise?. Flavor/Palate : Mild oily body with sparkle of ho oil. Neat drinkable brew , not very IPA like.
stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 3, 2009 Have I mentioned how much I lovely diverse and unique beers? Like this lovely IPA toasted with just a hint of jasmine. Its almost reminiscent of tea, and lends a little smoothness in the toungue before becoming a nice IPA. HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA Aug 3, 2009 Bottle. Wel, I do not get this style, the heavily falvored IPA. Having said that, this one is a good version of this approach. Jasmine is noticeable in aroma as well as flavor profile, but not overpowering. There is a nice floral hoppy touch to it and a bit of honey,. Finishes not too biter and gets better when it warms a bit. BeerFanDan17 (610), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Jul 31, 2009 Very interesting blend of flavors here. Jasmine flowers and mild spice. Smooth and not too strong which helps to bring out the subltelty of the hops with the Jasmine. Very unique.
