Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Mar 12, 2009 22oz bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours a cloudy medium orange color with decent lacing of an off white head left behind. Interesting nose of faint Jasmine flowers and a touch of hops and sweet malts. I like how this brew was balanced, if it was any hoppier it would cover the Jasmine, cool stuff. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Mar 2, 2009 Draught. At Cole’s, Buffalo NY. Poured slightly hazy amber-gold with an average creamy-foamy off-white head. Fairly mild aroma, quite perfumey and sweet - definitely jasmine. The taste - jasmine, and lots of it - luckily I really enjoy jasmine tea with Chinese food so this was quite appealing ... once you acclimatize to the jasmine, you realize there’s a ton of dry floral hops underlying this, with a light roast body that is sweet, but not too sweet. Nothing wild or crazy about the mouthfeel, pretty average, slightly undercarbonated, but a nice long floral finish. One I’d have again for sure - great secondary hoppiness (burps, I mean). buzzoven (333), Japan Feb 28, 2009 Great smell from this fuzzy, bubbly head...lots of citrus and hoppy standard IPA aroma. Upon first sip I was massively impressed. Here is a beer that has a grounding in a good common style and has added a little twist with the jasmine. Although the herbal presence is certainly felt, it is not overpowering. The balance is really something spectacular here and the idea alone is worthy of a hoisted int round the brewery. However, as this warmed up, some of the flavours began to change and take shape into something that resembled more of a standard Belgian brew crossed with...well, jasmine tea. Lots of dryness in the palate and a hint of roasted cinnamon. Interesting stuff. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Feb 25, 2009 on tap at Coles Buffalo NY. Interesting IPA. Pours an amber orange. Floral, slight perfumy & muted hops aroma. Taste is carmel malts, floral, pot pourri-ish, with lingering hop bitterness. Very drinkable and enjoyable but not the hop bomb if thats what your into Skeets (23), Sacramento, California, USA Feb 14, 2009 Bomber pours slightly hazy copper. Aroma was not IPA like at all, slight hop and Jasmine, but not as much as I expected for an IPA. Flavor was more pale ale like and I could slightly detect the floral jasmine quality. Drinkable but not much wow factor. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Feb 4, 2009 Pleasant aroma of bubble-gum/fruit, flowers, especially jasmine, hops. Clear amber appearance, white head. The flavors are malty, fruity (like a fruit cocktail) seguing quckly into a floral hoppy flavor toward the back. Hops are mild in this one. Wierd for an IPA, but on the other hand, flowers like heather were once used in lieu of hops in brewing. The finish is mainly floral hops, which leave a noticeable and lingering hop sting on the palate. Medium mouthfeel. Good overall, interesting and different. Worth trying for the novelty of it. I could knock back a few of these. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 22, 2009 In short: An intense tisane with bubbles and alcohol. Original for sure but quickly gets annoying and really not my thing.
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed soon after purchase, tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Almost clear golden body topped by a small beige head
In long: I’m not that familiar with the jasmine flower per say but this beer has a lot of tisane floral character (certainly the said jasmine). Unusual tisane nose but not really unpleasant, just a bit offsetting. Taste has way too much of that tisane character, especially in the finish. Some sugary cereals is about the only other flavour I could pick under that avalanche of floral tisane. Pretty gross, the only avatar more repulsive I know is MartinT’s picture of himself. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jan 18, 2009 Aroma of fruitiness and very little hops. A slight hazed orange pour. An odd almost orange peal bitter. Medium bodied and slightly fizzy carbonation. Odd beer, drinkable but an ipa?
