Holiday Ale Fest... Orange with a white head. Faint malt and hop aroma, very herbal. Silky and smooth palate with sweet hops and pine, strong malt to balance it out. Oak and bourbon was in there too.

Tap at Elysian. Pours to a yellower bronze body with a creamy white head. Aroma is strong with Styrian hops. Smells very English. Flavor is hoppy with grapefruit amarillo and some dry Goldings and sweet barley. Almost like an ESB meets barleywine. Palate is bitter but balanced with malt. Booze was well hidden.

Draft @ Elysian taproom, Seattle. Nearly opaque burne orange with tight lasting cream-colored cap. Big hoppy aroma and a thick sticky palate. Big body that finishes too yeasty and sticky for my taste. Soft carbonation and slightly medicinal flavors. Feels warming and hearty and is too big but still good.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Oakes (10191) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 14, 2010
Golden-amber with a thick head. Lots of earthy hops on the nose w/ some sticky (almost) pale malts. Rich, sticky brew. Lots of earthy hops. The pale malts are clean, only mildly toasty and bring lots of sugars. The alcohol, the sticky malts, the clash of Amarillo vs. Hallertau (for this batch)...this doesn’t really work but it’s not bad.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 9, 2010
Tap at BT. Pours a deep amber with a thin head. Aroma is sweet, sugary brown sugar, herbal and citrus hops, fruity esters, and a sharp caramel sweetness. Hoppy flavor along with lots of malts an dsugar, earhty spicy and green-leafiness, some citrus and tropical notes- overly fruited with esters and fruity hops, cheesy hints as well- light tartness in the end- abc seems hidden. Meh.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 gracefullypunk (667) - Oregon, USA - DEC 26, 2009
Have to say that I didn’t realize this was over 9 percent--the alcohol was fairly well hidden. Pours a pretty honey gold with a cream head and lace. Lots of IPA smell, some alcohol, grapefruit, and dough. There is a faint taste of alcohol as well as yeast, lactic, grapefruit and barnyard funk.

Ouch. A lights out version of their seasonal Bi-Frost winter ale, this kicks you in the teeth and then slashes away at your tongue. Sweetness is a bit much for some and can be considered cloying at too warm a temperature. A fine winter warmer and fireside sipper. A touch of grapefruit acidity in the finish. Stronger and less drinkable than original lower gravity Bi-Frost.

Tap at the Blind Tiger during NYC Craft Beer Week. Sweet, vegetable, pumpkin pie spice, tomato sauce aroma. Weird. Sweet tomato flavor, with a flat, lifeless body. Eh. Very unimpressive.

Draft. Pours a mahogany body with a thin bubbly head. Chewy tawny bread y and doughy notes. Hops, hardly some light floral and pine notes. Ashen plum and some caramel sweetness. Moderate warming with a berry like sweetness. Decent, but a bomb for the style.
