Thanks to BVC for this bottle. I’m not sure on the vintage, but this is an outstanding barleywine. Deep amber in color, good clarity with a soft fast falling beige head. Big caramel nose, notes of cherry, toffee, and rum raisin cake. Chewy body with a balanced finish. Hops have subdued, proving just a soft hop flavor, more just pushing bitterness to keep it from being cloying. Excellent overall, better then the 06 version I tried at the Hard Liver fest.

2006 on tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver ’09. Ordered a 3 oz taster of this after they announced it was #3 in the judging, and I was surprised it was that high. Pours clear orange amber with a small off-white head. Balanced nose and taste of caramel malt and fruity hops.

Pours a dark copper with a dense, dissipating head. Syrupy sweet malts and breakfast cereal on the nose, and a bunch of hops comes through in the flavor. Sweet caramel malts counter - it’s full-bodied, but besides the alcohol content, is slightly underwhelming. Another that falls into the "good, but not great" category.

On tap at cap hill brewery 3/21/09. poured a hazy orange color, taste profile was much more bitter than I anticipated given the listing as a barleywine. nose was more candied sugar with just a hint of the hops underneath. palate was balanced.

Taster – Beveridge Place Barleywine Bacchanal – Seattle, WA
Aroma: Very light aroma with a little high alcohol in the nose.
Appearance: Amber in color, clear with a thin head.
Flavor: A decent amount of malt this beer was lighter than I was hoping for. It was a new batch maybe it will mellow and get more flavor as it ages.
Palate: Very Dry tasteless finish.
Overall: A dry brew with some flavor this beer just needed more malt to be more sweet and carry the hops that where added for bittering. .

Bottle at Cole’s in Buffalo, NY. Pours unclear orange with a beige head. Sweet malt aroma with some fruity citric hops. The flavor has a nice fruity caramel sweetness with a very pleasant hoppy finish. The hop profile really makes this beer, it isn’t overpowering by any means, but it really complements the other flavors well.

On tap at Toronado for Barleywine fest ’09. Amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, dark fruits, brown sugar, Northwest-style hops, and the "wacky weed" if you know what I mean. Flavor is more of the same, full-bodied with alcohol.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Hazy dark amber colored pour. Nose is caramelized dark fruits, brown sugar and booze. Taste is the same with additional notes of vanilla. I like it.
