A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Draft while in Seattle. Black pour, thin but persistent dark beige head. Sweet stout, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, usual suspects. Taste is heavier on the roast. Nice smooth heavy body. dry roasted bitter finish.

Bottle from Old Line. Dark brown body with razor thin head. Nose is malty, sweet, slightly vanilla. Taste is chocolate, malts, coffee, vanilla. Nice texture. Turns into a cold chocolate malt in the finish. Great stuff!!

This shit is awful. First, it looks like poo water. Then you add in some old coffee flavor in addition to none of the good components (like a nice head) I look for in a stout and Iím done.

Bottle at Hatos Bar. Deep dark brown with a big soft brown head. Aromas of burned coffee, cacao and dark roasted malt. Taste is quite similar. Some astringent burned out notes as well. Itís OK I guess. Charred coffee bitterness on the finish. Body is quite thin.

In this weeks edition of "I canít believe I havenít rated this", we have what I believe to be the first Elysian beer is ever tried. Was awesome then, way more awesome now. Draft pour pint at the fields location. Pours black with a thick tan cream head and lacing. I love a beer that feels like it would go good with my 5:30 am work alarm. The more coffee the better. The line has never been crossed for me, though Iím sure itís possible. Light aroma of some roasted malt. Dark chocolate and bold coffee roast flavor. Very short sweetness late in the palate. Quite a fantastic brew here. Tune in next week.

Pours black with a beige brown head. I tried to pour for a massive head and succeeded, it also stayed for a while. Aroma is sweet, has coffee, cocoa and loads of toffee. I guess sweetness is coming from oats, itís evidently there but not overdone. Roasty. Taste has a lot of roast bitterness but also some dark fruits and coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Oats are giving a nice velvety texture but if I have to put my finger on it, then very little sweetness, this beer is more dry than sweet at the end. Aftertaste is finishing with a long dry charcoal bitterness. Well done and I can totally understand its high ratings.

Bomber pours dark black with a tan head. Strong roasted malt aroma with hints of coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is rich and smooth with a chewy mouth feel. Lots of bitter roasted aftertastes. Great stout!

Sort of dig, but way too hoppy for me for style. More like a black IPA! Appreciate the challenge to my tongue, but no completely won over. 22oz bottle.
