Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and cream. Poured black in color with a small, rocky, brown head that diminished but left a film that lasted throughout. Opaque. Good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, hops, coffee, slight burnt malts, vanilla, charcoal, and butterscotch. Medium body. Lightly chalky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Semi-sweet chocolate and roasted malt finish is lightly dry.

(22 oz. bottle via trade with explosivebeer, thanks Brandon!) Pours very dark tobacco brown with about a half finger of brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and roast, some molasses. Mouthfeel is medium-full, with a nice bit of oaty smoothness, light carbonation. Fine but well-defined rings and light curtains of lacing inside of snifter. Flavor is roasty and chocolatey, sweet dark and bitter chocolate and coffee. A bit of molasses as it warms. A fine, tasty stout although it seems a bit more like a regular or sweet stout than a foreign.

Roasted oaty maltiness with a dash of coffee flavors to balance it all out. One of the easiest drinking stouts I’ve ever had, a guy could easily drink two or three 22 oz bottles and not realize it until the alcohol hit. Not that I’d know anything about that...

22 oz bomber. Poured a deep dark brown with an average size frothy mocha colored head. Aroma is loads of roasted malts, touch ot oats and freeze dried coffee beans. Flavor of roasted malts, roasted malts and well more roasted malts. This is one solid beer that is simply enjoyable.

Thanks to Lexi for bringing this back all the way from Seattle... Rich dark pour and a gorgeous thick tan head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate and coffee. Wonderfully roasty aromas that intensified as it warmed. Velvety on the palate. This is one of the top 5 stouts I’ve ever had. An absolutely exceptional beer. Loved it.
