Rciesla (3515), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottle. Thanks to BrianK for the share sometime ago. Pours a dark brown body with a creamy 2 finger h ead. Roasted coffee, chocolate, slightly bitter and silky. Some hop presence in good balance (a faint appearance if you will). Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Oct 2, 2008 About a 3/4 inch high head of dense and creamy bubbles. Medium brown in color and lasts for quite a while. Rich chocolaty aroma with some licorice, sweet malts, roasted grains and a bit of coffee. Black like well used motor oil. Silky smooth palate. Lots of licorice again, dark roasted malts and some oat presence. Amazingly easy drinking and has a solid hops presence. Light alcohol presence. Finishes a little on the bitter side with a lingering roastyness. A damn fine stout! Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Sep 30, 2008 THOUGHTS: A really nice foreign that was incredibly easy to drink and looked wonderful in a tulip glass. A great example of one of my favorite styles.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark, nearly black brown that was opaque black in the glass with a small, light brown head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma was a little weak. There was moderate mild coffee, oat, chocolate syrup, cocoa powder, roasted and burnt malt, light yeast and light alcohol. The flavor was chocolate syrup, hot cocoa mix, dark fruits, bitter coffee, burnt and roasted malts. Nice balance of sweet chocolate and bitter coffee. The medium to full body was creamy and a little oily with lightly fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic, lightly astringent, lightly alcoholic and smooth finish. jblendy (518), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Sep 27, 2008 Pours black with a dark brown head. Subtle aroma of chocolate and roasted coffee. Nice balance of chocolate, coffee, pleasant bitterness, some lactic sweetness, and just a bit of warming alcohol. Fairly full-bodied, with a long bitter-sweet finish. markas101 (541), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Sep 26, 2008 65 cl bottle, Seattle, WA. Jet black, intense burnt malt aroma with alcohol notes. Medium bodied, smooth for the strength, with a nice long subdued roasted finish. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Sep 25, 2008 Probably one of the weirdest stouts I’ve ever tasted. Poured black with a dark brown head. Aroma was of maple syrups, pancakes, butter, chocolate and malts. Taste was a fantastic mix of syrupy pancakes, chocolate, and roasted malts. Alcohol was well hidden amongst the other flavors. Very drinkable beer, without being too heavy. beerbill (1920), Laurel, New York, USA Sep 23, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours black with a large, fairly dense brown head that lasted through three-quarters of the glass and left a coating of foam all the way to the end. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is equally nice with chocolate and roasted malt and perhaps a touch of coffee. Mild hops at the finish. Slightly sweet and fairly smooth on the palate. Very enjoyable. blipp (1632), Newark, New Jersey, USA Sep 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours near black with a fizzy tan head. Roasted malt aroma, with chocolate, caramel and floral hops. The flavor is more coffee than chocolate and has the same floral hop profile from the aroma. Some sweeter caramel as well. The finish is long and hoppy.
