sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, beautiful, medium brown head. Aroma is roast malt and a touch of coffee. Flavor is again roasted malt and coffe, maybe a touch of chocolate in the background. The palate starts off average, but the finish is a nice coffee bitterness. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 26, 2008 Sampled at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits Wednesday evening beer tasting. Picked up a 22-oz bomber from John’s Marketplace in Portland, Oregon, pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin tan head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and off-white ring. Aroma of toasted dark malts, chocolate, some coffee, molasses and a touch of grassy hops. Taste is full bodied, very light carbonation with flavors of toasted dark malt, some coffee and a touch of candi sugar. Finish is semi-sweet with a mild sweet toasted dark malt and citrus bitter aftertaste that slowly disappears. drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA May 26, 2008 Chocolate. Dark. Rich. A nice beer in a 6th ave Taproom that suddenly felt like a place for college kids. Despite the good beer selection, the crowd was young and the type to go for a pitcher rather than a pint. Still, this stout is nice and a second place finish for not making it to the pub itself. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 20, 2008 Sample at the Pike Street location. Pours black with a medium dark beige head that dissipates steadily. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma contains chocolate, malt, anise and coffee. Rich and smooth body with flavors of chocolate and roasted coffee, plus some hops and spices. The finish is roasty with a chocolate and espresso flavor that lingers awhile. Very enjoyable from start to finish. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA May 11, 2008 Bottle courtesy Gillard. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and ash. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good. MrBeerFanatic (344), jamestown, New York, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a small brown head. The aroma is smoky and sweet. Has a delicious sweet flavor upfront with notes of roasted chocolate and barley. The hops make them self known giving off a slightly hoppy character. The palate is somewhat thick and creamy. MMMM. The flavor ends on a light smokiness and a slight bitterness. This beer is smooth all the way through and well balenced. Very good stout! This is on my top 10 list of favorite stouts. A must try for stout lovers! MatSciGuy (629), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA May 7, 2008 [bottle] shared by skyview. Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted barley, candi sugar, and a little alcohol. Flavor is chocolate and coffee, and is quite bittersweet. Very nice full mouthfeel, almost like an imperial stout. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA May 4, 2008 (bottle thanks Skyview) Pours black with a thin tan head. Like most foreign stouts, I could smell a light sourness coupled with roasted barley, cocoa, and baker’s chocolate, that makes the aroma quite dry. Taste is rather roasty, with a slight hint of chocolate, that ends with a finish of tart and roasty flavors. Not too bad at all.
