Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Bottle. Dark, milk chocolate head. Coffee, charcoal, liquorice. Full mouth feel, dry forest fire finish. Lovely for sipping, would probably be nice with smoked meat. This could certainly warrant a broader distribution.

bomber on 4/11/08. completely in line with the commercial description - smooth and sturdy stout. pours a dark black with a thick creamy head... excellent lacing on the glass throughout. some fruits, chocolate and liquorice on the nose as well through the palate. Nice bitter finish which rounds out the beer quite well. Very drinkable and highly recommended - glad I found this while out in Montana....

Deep brown pour with medium tan head. Really interesting brew in complexity and flavor. Much more so than the nose. Creamy mouthfeel and clean finish.

A beautifully black beer with a nose of dark malts and oats, and a palate that brings together a remarkable array of competing flavors--but in such a way that the result is entirely organic and not at all contrived. Roasted oats are up front on the tongue, with a smooth malted syrup overlay, semi-sweet chocolates lurking in the background, and a uniquely earthy/oak taste offset against a mild, mild fig flavor. Very good.

Pours black with a short lived tan head. Smell is mild dark roastiness and a hint of cardboard. Taste is dry burnt roastiness. Medium bodied with similar carbonation. A bit ashy and slightly bitter from the nice sharp hops. Could use a touch more body, but the dark, burnt flavor is nice.

Bomber. Pours with little head, though whats there is nice. Within minutes it appears dead flat. Body is very nice, thick without being boozy or heavy. A fairly easy drinker. There is a clean, woody syrup aroma, mostly dry, a bit unassertive. The flavor has a lot of pine, woody in a non-oak way, more like a carpentry kind of thing. Mild hops in the finish. Good enough.

22oz bottle from bottletrek.com A great stout!! Poured motor oil black with a good sized chocolaty head that diminished quickly. Lots of chocolate, burnt toffee, and plum on the nose. Great lacing was left on the glass by the way. The flavor was even more bold that the aromas alone, glad I got to try this one.

On tap, poured with a bit of brown, not completely black body and head. Nice. Flavor was sweet and palate was warm. Lots of good flavors, dried fruit, brown sugar. Aroma was sweet and sugary too. Palate had great full body and overall, just a very pleasing, not overdone stout.
