fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Feb 15, 2008 22 oz bottle shared with toncatcher. Lots of rosted and bitter coffee aromas. Some chocolate too. Better on the flavor. Some sweetness with chocolate and dark fruits. Pretty good stuff. theisti (1638), Leawood, Kansas, USA Feb 14, 2008 Draft at brewery in South Downtown Seattle, enjoyed in the company of after4ever. Pour is all black, with a two inch tan head. Aroma of espresso roast and some bright hoppiness. The taste mirrored the nose, with a bunch of roasted malt and a crisp hop finish. Well made stout. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Feb 10, 2008 22oz bomber. Thanks to travisd13. Pours black not too thick looking not too thin. Very, very small off-white head, some lace. Smells roasty and toasty, very nice. As it warms you get more of the roasty coffee scent. Tastes sweet and roasty, lots of complex roasty malt flavors. Palate is a bit lacking, needs more carbonation, medium body, could use a bit more. Nice stout though, could be a session beer. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Feb 7, 2008 Bomber, about a year old. Poured very deep brown with thick cap of some of the darkest brown head that I’ve seen. The aroma picked up a lovely blend of darker roasted chocolates, molasses, and coffee paired with sweeter oats and cocoa.. delicately-balanced between a sweet stout and a foreign-style stout.. this had some piney hoppage, but likely much less than when it was fresh. The flavor began with piney and coffee bitterness along with sour, almost oaky notes rolling over the tongue.. dry, dark, roasted coffee at the core with lesser notes of molasses, soy, and dark chocolates.. the back-end found some caramel, which joined in nicely.. excellent components and flow! Medium-bodied with lower carbonation and a bit of an oily texture on the palate.. piney bitterness, caramel, and slight coffee just stick on the finish. This was an extremely pleasant surprise! Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Feb 3, 2008 It’s pitch black and the head is huge, creamy and nougat colored. If the breath of a dragon is like the aroma, I want one! It has notes of sweet coffee, chocolate and roasted malt blended in a very harmonic way. The flavour isn’t less harmonic with light sweetness, smooth, sweet and slightly bitter coffee and chocolate and the body is nice and full! It’s difficult to let go of the glass, I want a new sip, and then one - and - yummi, it’s really nice. Thank you Tom/After4ever for this one!! unrulythings (73), Portland, Oregon, USA Jan 23, 2008 pours a dark, oily brown with a thin mocha head. lots of espresso and coffee on the nose along with malted chocolate. flavor is a bit on the smoky side, with notes of milk chocolate and roasted malts, though rolls fresh across the tongue. MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2008 22 oz bottle shared at Foam Rangers club meeting. Pours a thick black with a thin brown head. Nose is of fruit, and chocolate malt. Taste is of coffee and hops. Mouthfeel is medium with some alcohol noticed and a bitter finish. Nice. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Jan 14, 2008 Wow! Poured a thick black-brown opaque body with a thin grey-brown head. Nose of chocolate malts and rich, grainy bitter hops. Thick rich vanilla mouth feel. Lush and well balanced. This beer is awesome!
