Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Black, dark brown around the edges. Rich, lightly sweet mocha. Finishes off with a plum fruitiness. I really liked this one. I was surprised by it, actually.

Looks great, pours with a good-sized dark head and leaves lacing. Roasty nose and taste and a solid dandelion root bitterness. Qualities similar to some imperial stouts. Alcohol is detectable and imparts an occasional sweetness. Good palate.

Dark, with rich chocolate cream head. I had forgotten how stalwart this stout was. Deep, dark noted, slightly bitter chocolate aroma and flavor, with some alcohol notes contributing complexity. Strong roasted and chocolate component throughout the experience. Excellent beer for a rainy day or to enjoy with chocolate.

(Draught) Sampled at the brewpub on October 17, 2007. Lasting brown head with an opaque body. Nose of full-on coffee. Flavour has hints of oil, vanilla and coffee. Good.

Bottle from the A2M ranger himself: Sean. Pours out a dark black color with a tan head that comes from the bottom. The nose is full of roasted coffee and almost a sweet smelling sugar with it. Kind of like a milk stout, but not repulsive like they are. Taste is smooth and rich, very chocolately but not overly sweet. No alcohol detected, and dangerously easy to drink. A really good beer, in a typically under appreciated style. Good stuff.

22oz - thanks Yonker65 - Aroma of burnt oats and roasted chocolate malts. Appealing with cocoa, lacto and just a touch of hops. Pours black with a small brown ring head and good lacing. Flavor is a mild match to the aroma. Palate is sticky and ashy. A tasty stout.
