Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 26, 2007 Bitter chocolate smell. Looks great. Pretty bitter flavor. Chocolate flavor too. But there’s also a weird flavor that I can’t figure out.Maybe it’s the oats but I really have no idea? WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 21, 2007 Dark colored with a minimal head. Has a nice body without being overly thick. Smooth and dry with hints of dark chocolate, oats, and a bit of coffee. The thing that catches me with this beer is that the hops are well pronounced on the back end, and they tend to dry it out a bit. If hops aren’t your thing, this isn’t for you, but I find it to be an interesting version of the style. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Oct 15, 2007 Vanilla and chocolate on the nose, very smooth and sweet aroma. Pours dark brown. Very smooth flavor, chocolate, a little vanilla, with some coffee flavors. Excellent beer! Feinschmecker (179), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 14, 2007 On Tap. Deep black with a thin dark brown head. Aroma is of roasted malt and chocolate. Espresso and chocolate notes give the beer a smooth fantastic flavor. There is a little bitterness, but just enough. The hops in fact prevent the malt from being overpowering. I believe the Dragonstooth Stout is a terrific well-balanced stout, as long as it is not served too cold! JohnnyJ (1283), Carlsbad, California, USA Oct 13, 2007 Pours a dark brown with dense tan head. Roasted malt, hops, chocolate and roasted coffee. The roasted coffee part stands out quite a bit. I thought the mouthfeel was slightly thin, with medium carbonation. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Oct 12, 2007 on tap-pours a light brown head that laces and black color. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/molasses, roasty. Taste is dark malt-chocolate/molasses, roasty, some coffee. Less hops and slightly fuller body than the porter[as the styles usually indicate]. Still nice even though not my style. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Sep 26, 2007 Pours a VERY foamy dark tan head. Lots of bubbles. Dark brown color in body, nearly black with zero light passing through it. Lots of carbonation. Aroma of malts and grains. Perhaps even a little bready? Tastes great (and I doubt its less filling!!). Lots of roasted malts in the flavor, but not bitter or grainy to the taste. . Bitterness on the palate in the aftertaste, but not overwhelmingly bitter. Too bad this beer isn’t available here in California. Bobsy (194), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 24, 2007 Updated: Jan 12, 2008Draft at Elysian Fields in Seattle. I had this beer and the porter, and this was definitely the better of the two. Flavours included chocolate and caramel, and there was a pleasant bitterness. I could drink this all night long!
