COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Bottle to American pint glass Oats, chocolate and coffee aromas. Pours black with a thin mottled tan head and great lacing. Taste is chocolate and coffee up front, but then that dies off to a grapefruit and then a long lasting bitter end; no alcohol taste. Full bodied, smooth and creamy and no burn. Wow...this is good.

12/6/2011. 22 oz. bottle. Pours black with a beige head. Roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, a hint of smoke. This is good stuff. Not overly bitter and a nice balance.

Appearance: Super dark brown. Head pillowy.... Taste: Taste is sweet upfront, with lots of caramel coming through. In the middle it turns very bready and slight hints of roasted malt bitterness set in. The finish has a slight smoky taste with subtle lingering bitterness. This is a very tasty oatmeal stout, although I wasn’t able to pick oats in the aroma or in the taste.

on tap at Brennans Bowery Bar in the suburbs of Buffalo. Deep dark brown almost black pour with a bit of frothy head, some solid hops aroma but a very chocolatey start and finish. Good beer

Draft at Mudville 9 NYC. Pours a deep black color with a head that fades. Lace lasts on the sides . Taste is a dry crisp flavorful stout without the booziness ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @tasting. Pours black. Not the biggest nose you will get but you do get a hops on the nose. Quite bitter for a stout with hints of chocolate and coffee some light fruits, thin, could do with a bit more body. Thanks to BenH for the bottle.

Poured an oily black and had a chocolate brown head which reduced down to leave a thin film on top of the beer. Lots of malt flavors, doesn’t specify it’s an oatmeal stout anywhere I saw on the bottle but it tasted like a very disappointing one. Had the typical notes of chocolate, smoke, oats, earthy coffee etc but didn’t seem too well balanced and had a sharp, poignant aftertaste which really took away from it.
