Paulp (20), New Jersey, USA Sep 12, 2009 22 poured black with a slight tan head, coffee/chocolate/caramel aroma with a finish of slight hops overall good brew. ben4321 (957), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 11, 2009 Location: 22 oz bottle from Down beach Liquors, 9/11/09
Aroma: Coffee, bittersweet chocolate, some caramel, roasted malts, and a bit of earth
Appearance: Dark brown color, poured with a thin brown head, and a bit of lace
Flavor: Nice malty taste, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, some light earthy/pete hops
Palate: A nice, thick, medium-full bodied beer, smooth and creamy mouthfeel
Overall Impression:
I think you need to allow this one to breathe for a bit to get the full affect of the nose. This beer has a nice flavor profile. It is a good, smooth stout, that I enjoyed quite a bit.
Wombata (74), Kobe, Japan Sep 7, 2009 Color: Pitch black
Aroma: Chocolate, milkshake
Flavor: Like the aroma on the mid-palate followed by bitter, burnt grain which quickly fades and then reappears at the end of a rich, smooth, creamy coffee finish.
Comment: Though not too complex, I liked how the flavor evolved and changed. This has the deliciousness factor for those with a moderate sweet-tooth.
njmoons (52), New Jersey, USA Sep 4, 2009 Pours and deep dark brown/black, with light carbination.
Smelled of sweet malt, rich and heavy.
Taste - Sweet, mouth puckering sweet, too sweet. The bitterness (hop and malt) came in late and did not offset the sweetness I tasted.
For me, this stout was way out of balance, not a beer I would pick up again. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Sep 3, 2009 Cask at Blind Tiger. Very enjoyable beer. It’s hard to find this style of around. The aroma is roasted coffee, bitter dark chocolate. The appaearance is a lovely dark brown, tan head. The flavor is very much like the aroma, roasted coffee, bitter chocolate. The finish is a combination od roasted coffee, hops. The mouthfeel is appropriate medium thick, creamy. Very good. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Aug 16, 2009 Bottle from Bottle Barn. Black with a creamy light brown head. Rich chocolate and oat aroma. Nice thick palate and a taste of chocolate, mild citrus, cherry, and finishing with a grainy taste. savnac (394), Palmer, Alaska, USA Aug 13, 2009 22 oz bottle. This beer is pretty much black, just some dark brown showing around the edges, there is a big light brown head that slowly fades leaving a bit of lacing on the glass. Big aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel, light smoke and some Pacific NW hop aroma buried deep in there too. The flavor is rich and sweet with some bittersweet chocolate and also some hop bitterness in there too. This is a full bodied beer with a very mild carbonation as it should and a smooth velvety mouth feel. Overall this is an excellent beer, a great sipping beer for when an Imperial Stout would be too much. gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA Aug 9, 2009 Pours near black with a cream head. Aromas of coffee, brown sugar, roasted malt. Palate is very rich and full. Tastes of oats, chocolate, caramel and coffee. Fine stout.
