CUJO (339), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jun 22, 2009 RattlenHum: Dark, "stouty" color. No head, but decent lacing?! Again another stout chratceristic I guess. Hard to get a read on the aroma. Bitter, coffee, malty chocolate in flavor. Smooth, yet I wish it was a bit more creamy. Medium carbonation, some bitterness in the aftertaste. DeadGirl (192), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Jun 16, 2009 Updated: Oct 18, 2009On tap at RNH (NYC): Aroma overpowers of melted dark chocolate. Thick but smooth finish. Chocolate taste with hints of tobacco and marshmellow. Simply a Bomber. #027 on 16062009, DG. Slipstream (735), USA Jun 16, 2009 A fairly sweet, malty stout with a rich coffee flavor. I could also taste herbal hops and tobacco notes. An excellent stout. On tap at Rattle n Hum. GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Jun 13, 2009 A crazy tasty beer. First, thanks to my buddy Mike B. for bringing this back on his trip up north. It’s been awhile since I’ve had an Elysian brewed beer, so I was pretty geeked up. This definitely did not dissappoint.
The beer glugs out of the bomber with a black as black body. I can start smelling the invinting aroma just from the air being pushed out of the glass from the liquid. Lots of dark roasted malts/coffee aromas, smoke, Hershey’s chocolate bar, molasses and some vanilla. Flavor seemed to have a fair amount of residual sweetness left behind, which worked incredibly well with the malt profile. Roasted malts, charred chocolate, anise, scorched marshmallows, coffee and caramel are all present and quite tasty. A little vanilla shows up about mid-palate and finishes with a light bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy and perfect. Thankfully I have 2 more of these!! Aquilo (249), California, USA Jun 9, 2009 Pours inky black with a few bubbles on top. No head at first, but then this thin tan velvety layer of head appears. Looks very sophisticated. Aroma is roasted malt with a little espresso. Flavor is espresso, chocolate, and roasted malt. Full body, silky mouthfeel make this an absolute pleasure to drink. Yum. troopie (851), USA May 31, 2009 Called an Imp stout on draught. Poured black with thin beige head. Some lacing. Malty aroma with a bit of chocolate. Malty flavour, with more chocolate and oatmeal. A weak finish which dragged the beer down. darbish (81), Portland, Oregon, USA May 15, 2009 smells like roasted malt with a little bit of a medicine-y odor and heavy chocolate/coffee with a little sweetness. pours totally black with a thin irish-creme colored head. heavy roasted coffee flavor, tastes most like black coffee. it’s a little sweet, but the bitterness of the drink helps suppress some of it so that it’s not overpowering (if anything, the bitterness itself is what is overpowering). also tastes smoky, so the taste is astringent. much more bitter than I expected from a stout. feels thick and creamy which is always a plus. very tasty. DiabolikDUB (143), Portland, Oregon, USA May 14, 2009 Poured from Bomber into Pint glass.
Pours a deep black with a one inch cocoa colored head that slowly dissipates into thin head that stays. As you drink this it leaves thick lacing down the glass. The aroma is strong with roasted malts and bitter coffee with a touch of chocolate that adds a sweetness to the scents. This flavor of this beer is dominated with semi-sweet chocolate and has a bitterness that lasts. It has a heavy to medium body that coats your mouth with every sip. I really like this beer, its highly drinkable and extremely enjoyable.
