Great malt complexity in a silky smooth body. Light sweetness with moderate roasted character. All forms of the fermentables are displayed very well; the chocolate and oat add the gravitas to make this drink shine. Great use of light bittering hops that leave a small spice note on the finish that is immediately subdued by the oat malt essence. Medium roast coffee and some oak. A Leviathan of a drink. marcus (1853), Sacramento, California, USA

There is a roasted malt aroma and a rich chocolate and coffee flavor. The addition of oats causes this brew to be smooth and mellow. oldtoby (1), Livermore, California, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 7, 2009 super dark, increased oat flavor as beer warms up, slight coffee taste and textures, runs smooth throughout the mouth and down the throat to my belly fidel (921), Livermore, California, USA

Just this great wafting, densely smoke-like nose of roast without ash. Pitch pour with a luscious light brown head, rocky and creamy. Sweet lactose and chocolate, light coffee and medium roast. Light bitterness with faint earthy hop prickling. Watery body is creamy and smooth, sticky lips. Too sweet for quantity, but simple and enjoyable. CheersMate1 (789), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Boom! Good beer. Nice chocolate and coffee taste. Barclay (my dog) drank the shit out of this beer. He is very picky you see, and anything he drinks, I must say is a great beer. This beer was very smooth, and very sweet. I think the hop profile was overrated, but the chocolate/coffee flavors, and the nice chocolate brown head, were awesome. This beer is great and underrated.
