3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with huge frothy tan head, beautiful looking beer. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and faint vanilla. Taste of roasted malts, chocolate, faint coffee, touch of caramel, rolled oats and soft hops. Full bodied, medium carbonation, soft creamy mouthfeel. A nice medium between a stout and an imperial stout, good beer!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Meh. this is really harsh and acrid with burnt meat, ash, some stale coffee and a bit of a hop bite. Idk this is lost on me.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
16-Feb-14 (22-oz bottle)
This is a pretty old bottle, so hopefully Iíll get to try a fresh bottle some time, but this is still very tasty. It has a deep, dark chocolatey flavor with some mild coffee, a bit of cola, dark toast, damp earth, oatmeal, and roasted nuts. Malty sweetness is medium-light while the roasty bitterness is quite gentle, but has enough presence for suitable balance. Despite the age, itís medium in weight, medium in carbonation, very slightly acidic, and just dry enough for solid drinkability. The intriguing nose is mostly dark chocolate, some coffee, a hint of black olive, but thereís a significant earthiness from the aging that contributes a suggestion of shitake mushroom. In the glass, the beer is an opaque, dark brown color with some transparency near the edge, and the tan head pours to half an inch before settling to a thin ring. Overall, this is a pretty solid stout, especially considering itís several years old. Balanced, flavorful, and very enjoyable and easy to drink.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a black beauty with a long fine pillowy caramel colored head. Heavy toasted malt hits the nose progressing to that characteristic burnt smell exhibited by a heavy stout. At first touch itís creamy with a fair carbonation, roasty malts with a smooth and bitter finish. This is a really nice Imperial Stout.

If you like dark chocolate and coffee, youíll love this beer from Elysian. This oatmeal stout pours dark mocha-brown with a rich tan head. Has a smooth rich taste with chocolate and coffee tones (very Seattle), perfect for after meal beverage on a cold winter night.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber. Before I really knew anything about beer or places to take out-of-town guests who wanted beer, Iíd take people to Elysian Tangletown, based off of a trip there with kmweaver. Once I started drinking myself, this was my go to beer there. For some reason I havenít had this in years, but thanks to the style-ticking mission Iím on, I have an incentive to revisit it. Pours thick, dark with creamy mocha head, good retention and lacing. Aroma: bittersweet chocolate, loads of roast, graham cracker. more milk chocolate. Taste: chocolate, surprisingly dry -- some initial sweetness but a huge roasty, lasting bitter finish. Doesnít taste like 7.5%, but that can quickly get the better of you (one of the features I think I liked early on). Still, this is a bomber Iím happy to keep to myself. Palate: medium-full body, average carbonation, slick, slightly viscous texture. Overall: Initially I wondered what made this a "foreign stout" rather than an oatmeal imperial stout (which it says on the label), but that huge, dry, roasty taste and medium body gave me my answer. A very nice beer. Not a ton of flavors or complexity coming through, but thatís not a knock -- itís just a well-made, straightforward, nice beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
650ml bottle, pours black with a tan head. Aroma is malty with chocolate and a bit of caramel and coffee and hints of vanilla. There is a definite citrus hop texture adding an extra layer of flavour and a bit of tang. Not as rich and velvety as some strong stouts, but a well balanced rich beer with a complex flavour profile. Very nice.
