Odeed (1438), Bakersfield, California, USA Nov 25, 2005 poured this years batch into a snifter glass and got the blackest of bodies with a nice looking 1/2 inch chocolate head.the aromas were a blend of cocoa, sweet milk chocolate, smoke, and bitter roasted malts.the flavor was another complex mix of bitter coffee grains, sweet milk chocolate, dry chocolate, and caramel malts.the mouthfeel was nice and full and the palate was complex.this is an excellent stout. jasonp (1423), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Mar 21, 2006 Obtained from my folks who went to Seattle a few months back. Pours a deep black with a thick, creamy light brown head; perfect apperance. Pleasantly sweet and tasty with big notes of roasted malt, raisin, plum, mocha, a boatload of chocolate along with an undercurrent of caramel sweetness. Has a prominent dosage Pacific NW hops which is more than ok with me. Beautifully balanced. Incredibly silky and creamy with lively, fine-beaded carbonation. Lacing hangs on the glass in sheets with good head retention. One of the best stouts I’ve ever had, just awesome. kenb (924), Oregon, USA Sep 25, 2006 Updated: Feb 27, 200722 oz bottle via Liquid Solutions. Pours a midnight pitch black with a large tan head. Aroma has roasted notes of licorice, coffee, and chocolate. .It is bold and complex with many layers, with primarily flavors of roasted coffee, licorice, and chocolate (and a lot more underneath). Finish and aftertaste are dry and roasted and lingering. The citrus/piney hops balance it all out quite nicely. DocLock (4047), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 16, 2005 Whoa, Nelly, as soon as I pour this I can see and smell greatness. The pour is obsidian, the color of a black dragon, with a medium, perfectly uniform, dark tan head. Perfect appearance. The aroma avails itself with chocoff, black malt, backup hops and esters, and some molasses. The taste begins chocolate malty, with some hops and esters at mid palate. The finish is very dense and smooth...not at all cloying, with slight nuts, rauchy, and oaty elements coupled with the very dense dark malt, chocolate, and molasses. The mouthfeel is superb, with a richness and dense complexity and balance that impresses me greatly. I love this beer, and I’m glad I have 2 more to enjoy. DuffMan (1890), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 12, 2008 Oily black pour, deep brown head. Intense roast aroma, sweet, chocolate and molasses. Thick, heavy creamy mouthfeel. Beautiful roasted malt in generous abundance, bitter chocolate, coffee, subtle anise. finish is long and bitter. I didn’t want this to end!
