Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

22 oz bomber. Poured a deep dark brown with an average size frothy mocha colored head. Aroma is loads of roasted malts, touch ot oats and freeze dried coffee beans. Flavor of roasted malts, roasted malts and well more roasted malts. This is one solid beer that is simply enjoyable.

Boom! Good beer. Nice chocolate and coffee taste. Barclay (my dog) drank the shit out of this beer. He is very picky you see, and anything he drinks, I must say is a great beer. This beer was very smooth, and very sweet. I think the hop profile was overrated, but the chocolate/coffee flavors, and the nice chocolate brown head, were awesome. This beer is great and underrated.

Pours a dark black with a frothy tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, mocha and coffee. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Flavor is very nice with hops bitterness and cocoa on the finish. Also notes of coffee, oats and burnt toast. A very tasty stout.

Bottle from canals in mt.holly. Split with DeputyAndy and JRedmond. I’m a big fan of the style. This is no exception. Pours near black with a tan head. Flavor is roasty and malty. Good mouthfeel with slight citrus. Tasty offering.

Bottle. Great aromas of chocolate, roasted chocolate and oats. Rich black color with mahogany head. Good rich chocolate flavors. Nice oats flavors too. Some roasted/burnt coffee. Hops flavors very covered but provide a nice slight bitterness., also some orange peel. Thick creamy mouth feel very warm in the stomach. Really nice beer.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Down beach Liquors, 9/11/09

Aroma: Coffee, bittersweet chocolate, some caramel, roasted malts, and a bit of earth
Appearance: Dark brown color, poured with a thin brown head, and a bit of lace
Flavor: Nice malty taste, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, some light earthy/pete hops
Palate: A nice, thick, medium-full bodied beer, smooth and creamy mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I think you need to allow this one to breathe for a bit to get the full affect of the nose. This beer has a nice flavor profile. It is a good, smooth stout, that I enjoyed quite a bit.
