Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Down beach Liquors, 9/11/09

Aroma: Coffee, bittersweet chocolate, some caramel, roasted malts, and a bit of earth
Appearance: Dark brown color, poured with a thin brown head, and a bit of lace
Flavor: Nice malty taste, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, some light earthy/pete hops
Palate: A nice, thick, medium-full bodied beer, smooth and creamy mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I think you need to allow this one to breathe for a bit to get the full affect of the nose. This beer has a nice flavor profile. It is a good, smooth stout, that I enjoyed quite a bit.

A very roasty stout with a smoked aroma and finish and lots of bitter coffee to finish it off. Very light on the palate, without a lot of thickness, but still remains rather smooth. Lots of hops in the finish give a big bitter finish. Very nice stout pouring a perfect black with a tall tan head.

Bottle. Sugar, caramel and burned aroma. Fairly black, creamy brown head. Smooth chocolate entry, Dark sugar, granola, hops hide in the background. Dry finish, coffee and caramel aftertaste, a hint cinnamon retrnasal. Creamy texture, very lightly carbonated. Nice.

Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours a very oily thick black color. Full aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Some sugars and chocolate as well. Smooth mouthfeel. Very bitter roasted coffe flavo with a little bit of sugar. Finish is bitter with some grapefruit peel qualities. My bottle was 7.4%.

Dark brown color, nice tan head that had a good hang time then faded slowly to leave a bit of a lace behind. The aroma was malty and roasty with a nice sweet side and maybe some hints of a bitter chocolate. The flavor was much better then i was expecting.Roasty and malty with a nice sweetness and some hints of chocolate and coffee,as the brew warms up a bit the coffee and chocolate become a little more pronounced but over all i’d have to say i really like this brew and want more for later.

Dark, with rich chocolate cream head. I had forgotten how stalwart this stout was. Deep, dark noted, slightly bitter chocolate aroma and flavor, with some alcohol notes contributing complexity. Strong roasted and chocolate component throughout the experience. Excellent beer for a rainy day or to enjoy with chocolate.

Black, dark brown around the edges. Rich, lightly sweet mocha. Finishes off with a plum fruitiness. I really liked this one. I was surprised by it, actually.

Oily black pour, thin creamy dark tan head. Nice aromas here of Starbucks coffee (Italian roast), bittersweet chocolate, mochachino, and toffee brittle, with light tones of smoke. Bittersweet chocolate citric tones and burnt coffee are prevalent as it warms, with light berry notes following through in the end. Lighter side of medium bodied and slick, light carbonation, bitter chocolate finish. Wish this was available in MD. Very nice...
