Aroma has roasted malts, blah blah blah. It’s a nice aroma for an imperial stout to have.
Nice creamy thick body. Pretty basic but luscious imperial stout flavors. Subtle piney hop hints similar to original Dark Lord, Batch 7000 and Smuttynose.
Elysian seems to put together some good stuff.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2007 Beer as it should be. Pitch black with a thick, creamy tan head. Aroma of coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, caramel, anise, molasses. Rich and robust in the mouth, full bodied. The flavor reiterated the aroma in a nice blend of sweetness and bitterness. Seems stronger than the 7.4% ABV noted. Great stout.

Vanilla and maybe some oranges. Touch of sherry in the end. Quite complex and interesting beer, this one. eboats (901), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Poured black with a small dark brown head. Aroma was huge coffee with some notes of milk chocolate. Flavors were coffee, milk chocolate, and some roast. All the flavors were a bit too light, but still very good. Creamy mouthfeel. acertain (249), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 1, 2005 Pours opaque black with a good brown head. Aroma is mostly of coffee/roasted malt, with a hint of the alcohol. Feel is good and hearty, as you want in a stout. The taste is very good and complex, certainly one of my favorite beers. Not blow-you-away amazing like the Stone Imperial or the Dogfish Head WW; however, at "only" 7.45% alcohol, I can actually drink an entire bomber without feeling trashed. One thing I’ve noticed at least with the draft version: the quality varies. Sometimes it has been excellent and other times disappointing. That could explain some of the varience in the ratings here. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 12, 2007 750. Beer is opaque dark brown, head is average-sized, tan, frothy, diminishing but lasting. Dots of specky lace on snifter.

The aroma is nice. First impression is roasty-creamy with an earthy appeal. Malty with moderate notes of roasted grain, creamy milk chocolate, coffee, light note of peaty molasses; Hoppy with light-to-moderate notes of resin/pine; Yeasty with a light note of creamy dough, light note of basement; Light miscellaneous notes of sweet black cherry, light note of distant fireplace smoke, trace of rainy garden soil.

The flavor is moderately sweet, light-to-moderately bitter with a long, , lightly bitter, light-to-moderately sweet finish. Hint of astringency.

The body is medium-to-full, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively. Angeloregon (2038), Portland, Oregon, USA

Nose of chocolate malts and rich, grainy bitter hops. Thick rich vanilla mouth feel. Lush and well balanced. This beer is awesome! KnutAlbert (3217), Oslo, Norway

Dark, milk chocolate head.
Coffee, charcoal, liquorice. Full mouth feel, dry forest fire finish. Lovely for sipping, would probably be nice with smoked meat. This could certainly warrant a broader distribution.
