3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Elysian. Aromas of alcohol, wood smoke, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet-- brown sugar, orange, sawdust. Hesitant, for an elk, and a little thin in the mouth/ Nice but nothing special.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a clear dark copper amber with a small white head. Aroma is quite subtle and restrained, with toasted malts and a mild hop profile. Flavour is robust, with notes of caramel malts, roasted hazelnuts, and a nice resinous hop profile. Really well-balanced, robust and drinkable. Very nice stuff.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Hazy red-amber color with compact head. Mild malt aroma. But the malt flavor is much better: lean and not too sweet, but almost the same profile of a Barley Wine, also a bit nutty; good bitterness level; quite elegant and clean.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap last night at Tangletown. Poured brown with a tiny white head. Nose of demerara sugar and hints of Earth. Flavor is real sweet like sweet plums up front. The demerara sugar is present throughout, nicely. Lots of toffee and caramel flavors. Tiny hint of hops towards the finish.

Gorgeous amber-wood body with ring of head. Juicy hop and candi malt aroma. Candi sugar flavor with tinges of ether hovering above the body. Wet and a bit leafy with a juicy-fruity finish.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cloudy aber-brown with a big rich head. The aroma is kind of faint - vaguely nutty, earthy malts. Lots of dark fruit, some toasty notes, moderate hops. Finishes with almost a blackberry fruitiness. As it warms, some gooseberry comes out as well.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft @ brewpub. Dark red-brown. Superb lacing. Blackberry in aroma and crusty brown bread. The flavors have more dark raisin like flame raisin and also the blackberry. Interesting flavors! Here the alcohol is well disguised. Very nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nose of caramel sweetness, toffee, light roast, peppery earthy bitterness with jsut a hint of citrus as well. Pours darker amber, nice creamy beige-ish hread. The flavor is malty initially - caramel, toffee, toast, light roast followed by earthy peppery bitterness, a hint of citrus, and some residual sweetness in the finish. Smooth nice mouthfeel, creamy body, decent balance. A nice winter ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the pike street. Pours a fully opaque dark brown with a dense and creamy tan head that sticks around for a while. Nice robust malty nose showing brown bread, iced tea, and black pepper, in a surprisingly effective combination thats considerably more than the sum of its parts. Creamy medium body with restrained carb, showing again the brown bread, now with caramel, black pepper again, and a more prominent burst of iced tea there in the finish. Nice big winter warmer.
