4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cloudy, squash-like gold, minimal cream colored head, faint filigree lacing. Fresh grated ginger root is the forward-most aspect here. This is real ginger, not a powdered addition, and it makes a huge difference. This boldness is strikingly balanced with warm chamomile, nutty squash, and appropriate (and thankfully restrained) ’pie’ spicing. The pumpkin, in addition to lending a slightly fuller mouthfeel, combines with the malt to create a rich backbone for all other aspects to shine forth from. Highly drinkable, never too weighty or viscous. The copious Saaz provides a very nice herbal bitterness to the lingering finish. In fact, it perfectly cuts through both the boldness of the ginger and the richness of the pumpkin. Refreshingly different from today’s standard ’pumpkin ale’. One more reason why I love great lagers.
So what do we have here? Wholesome/fresh ingredients, low abv (my bottle says 4.5), and an inspired twist on an old classic. Resulting in: A badass, folkloric lager ... showing fresh boldness in fantastic harmony with nuanced depth. Wish I could buy this bottled individually, instead of as a single inclusion only available in their "Pumpkin Patch" variety four-pack. Hey, Elysian ... tweak this basic pils recipe in another way ... use delicata squash and fresh sage ... please.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
THOUGHTS: Holy Cow! That was a ton of ginger. Both in flavor and aroma. Maybe not the best pumpkin beer around, and maybe not even a good pumpkin beer, but it was a wonderful beer if you love ginger. It was a little too much ginger for me, but only by a little. The spicy hops blended wonderfully with the ginger.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, light, dirty, yellow that wound up looking like it had a lightly green tint. It also had a large, ever-so-slightly, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma was fresh and clean and contained ginger, and mostly ginger — almost perfume like, but slightly soapy, too. The initial flavor was slightly sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and moderately bitter with an average duration. There was a little pale malt, mostly ginger, some spicy hops that blended right into the ginger, and slightly sour pumpkin when warmer. The light body was somewhat dry and hot on the tongue with sort of soft but tingly carbonation and a dry and sort of metallic finish with heat from the spices.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Slightly opaque pale amber with a medium white head. Aroma is mostly ginger, with some light citrus. A lot of ginger in the taste as well, which is medium-heavy bitter, and surprisingly not very sweet, very vegetal. Finish is very bitter with a little spice. Not bad, good change of pace from your typical pumpkin beer, but needs to be sweeter.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013-02-02. Hazy bright pastel yellow body, small white head. 3+ Strong ginger character in both aroma and flavour, mild pale malt sweetness and lingering ginger. Average plus palate. 3+ Decent, lots of ginger throughout so your enjoyment will be dependent on how much you like that. On tap at Blue Monk, Buffalo

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Real hazy. Harsh, dry, fibrous and woody nose. Some sweet, bright tingles, super hot and fresh ginger flavour. This COULD be the best HOTDog ever. Medicinal. Oops. I forgot that this was a pumpkin beer. Ginger pilsner maybe...

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks to 5000 for sending me this bottle. Really didn’t know what to think of this one, but I liked it. Pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is very heavy on the ginger with some pilsner malt thrown in. The ginger also dominates the flavor. There is a bit of pilsner malt. I get a slight amount of bitterness from the hops but no real hop flavor. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This beer really grew on me. I hated it at first, then as I drank it the more flavors started coming out. Aroma was weak and a little broing. Light pilsner malt was all that I could detect. Pour was a nice hazy light yellow with a one finger white head. Taste was delicious. One of the better session beers I’ve had in a while. Starts with the sweet pilsner malt in the beginning which quickly gives way to spicy ginger. The ginger dominates the flavor until the hops kick in and bring the gulp to a bitter finish. The aftertaste is a mix of bitter noble hops and ginger. No pumpkin is detected. The mouth is actually left tingly from the ginger and heavy carbonation. Great surprise!

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle:   Orange hued straw, slight haze, moderate white head, decent lacing.   Oh boy, I can already tell too much Ginger was used.   Oh yah, pretty much nothing but Ginger in this one.   Slight grassiness on the backside, but gotta wade through a lot of Ginger before you get there.   Pumpkin, what pumpkin?   As it warms I get more and more of a Ginger Pledge like aroma, or maybe even one of those fancy urinal cakes.   This one does not work for me.   If you like Ginger, or maybe even Wasabi, you will probably like this one.   Ugh...
