3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
An orange amber IPA with a thin white head. In aroma, a pleasant pungent grapefruity hops, resinous and floral, lightly funky, marmelade. In mouth, a smooth bitter IPA with biscuitty malt, pinhey hops, catnip, very nicely balanced, not in your face, medium bodied. On tap at Oregon Brewer’s Fest, July 31 2011.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Muddy amber color, with creamy small head. Very nice aroma, sweet and fruity; apricot and oranges; some malt. Good toffee flavor, sweetish, with huge hopping; fruity and resiny, piney; lots of bitter oranges and some grapefruit; but also a bit yeasty and just overly bitter, which means the final is then quite harsh. Fresh.

Copper in color, clear with a thin head. Floral and fruity hops aroma and flavor. The malt build was strong with a grapefruit like flavor. Nice IPA.

Another excellent IPA from elysian. Copper color. Very citrusy, but without the tanginess of the Trip IX. Also has that typical malt profile of Elysian.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear red-tinged amber, lovely, frothy thick cream head. The nose is indded citrus orange and passionfruit, at once refreshing and tropical--reminiscent of times spent if Kauai quickly materialize. The flvaor starts of citrus and passionfruit forward, but the passionfruit quality becomes over the top, veering into cat urine territory. Fresh, bitter grapefruit finish. A strongly flavored brew with a few sharp turns.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep amber, Fresh, piney, vinous hops and caramel malts mingle on the nose. Perfectly hoppy, spicy, earthy and fruity with a glorious bitterness. Peppery, easy-to drink, Orange oils and a little grapefruit. Peas? Nasturtiums? Sorry for the rather schizophrenic review.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a very hazy and completely opaque dark copper color with golden orange edges and a one finger frothy white head that has good retention, only slowly fading into a thick lasting ring.
Earthy aroma with lots of leathery malt and faint earthy hops. Smells more like a barleywine really with hints of caramel, toffee and leather. Not that hoppy for an ipa with some earthy pine needle and very faint citrus fruit.
Full bodied with a stronger hop presence than the aroma suggests but it’s still pretty boozy and very malt forward. Slight creamy texture with some dry bitterness up front that lingers throughout. Very strong malt backbone with hints of caramel, biscuit, toffee and an odd leathery presence. Slightly spicy in the finish.
Overall I wasn’t really feeling this beer. It kind of has an identity crisis smelling and tasting more like a hoppy old/strong ale.
