Marsiblursi (3001) - Göteborg, - DEC 27, 2012
(Bottle) Pours dark reddish amber with a sand coloured head. The aroma is way too malty with notes of caramel, honey, toffee, almond paste and cookies. Undertones of passion fruit, pineapple, apples, canned fruits grass, citrus, gun powder and Swedish snus. The flavour light sweet, medium to heavily bitter and tiny acidic with muddy/sticky malt and resinous/woodsy/citric hops. The mouthfeel is light sticky, light numbing and light astringent with a soft carbonation. Nettles, resin, grapfruit and robust malt on the finish. Medium bodied.

Hazy dull tan, moderate aroma with a bit each of malt, fruit and hop. Medium bitterness, dash of alcohol, fairly sweet malts until the fruity hop character slides in.

Powerful fruit and citrus aroma, reminding me of candied apples. The nose immediately draws you in to the beer. It is a slightly hazy orange amber. The malt is complex but overall sweet. Caramel, toffee and earthy notes give way to piney hop flavors, finish astringent and dry. Bitterness is lasting but not overwhelming. West coast IPA brewers should definitely learn from the malt complexity. Hell, Elysian should learn how to translate this to their other brews! This beer is fantastic.

Smells like apple juice, and has a solid amber color. The flavor is very juicy, and highly acidic, like malic acid found in Green Apples (used to make sour candies), but with sort of a sweet cover. It ends up smelling and tasting a lot like candied apples. It also has a flowery smell and taste underneath, coming off like like the leaves of an apple tree. As you can probably tell, this is a very interesting, and very complex beer. Overall it is, very fresh, and easy to drink.

Surprisingly malt-forward IPA! Surprising, just because this is a PNW brew. But, quite good. The malts lead in, giving way to pine-oriented hops (with a touch of resin), and following through with sufficient bitterness. Very well done.

On tap at the brewery. Clear burnt orange pour with a white head. Similar to the I-5 but sweeter with tropical fruit hop notes. The nose is tropical fruit hops. Good balance with a nice caramel malt backbone. Not overly bitter. Good mouthfeel.

Draught @ Elysian Brewing, Seattle, WA

Pours dark orange with a sticky white head. Aroma of exotic fruits, crisp caramely malts, grass and herbal notes. Taste is sweet, juicy fruity and crisp biscuity malty with some caramel and grass. Finish is crisp, sweetish and malty with some caramel. Okay.

Good IPA. Subdued hops, not too bitter, not too mild with minimal malt back bone. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A pretty average American Pale Ale. The bottle says it is Savant, not Idiot.

From the bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish amber. Smaller tan head, good lacing. The smell is more malt than fruit ipa. Some citrus notes in the background. The taste is similar to the smell, backbone of malt and caramel with a little citrus hop. Finish is milder hop bitter but it is a raw hop taste, very green. Just an average ipa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deep golden amber color with a one finger head of just off white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is on the sweeter side with lots of caramel and some lighter fruit notes of a tropical variety. Along with these are some light aromas of a grapefruit hop as well as a bit of pine. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter caramel taste with a little bit of fruity sweetness. Along with these are some lighter grapefruit hop flavors as well as a little bit of earthy hop. As the taste advances some floral hops increase in intensity with the caramel really getting rather strong toward the end of the taste. The earthy ups it up a bit at the end and with a light herbal flavor that also comes to the tongue leaving one with a sweet, but decently hopped IPA flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is average. The mid range body and carbonation are quite nice for the easy drinking nature of the brew, all while upholding the hop and sweeter flavors nicely. Overall – A rather easy drinking but quite tasty IPA. Not too high in abv. with a nice blend of hops. While nothing super out of the ordinary, it is rather tasty and at least worth one try.
