3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at the Tap House Grill in Seattle. Cloudy reddish-amber color with a medium foamy off-white head that recedes slowly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, caramel and hops. Light to medium body with flavors of caramel malt, hops and grapefruit. The finish is hoppy with a short citrus aftertaste. Decent straightforward APA overall.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2015 Bomber. Caramel malt aroma with citrus and some pine hop notes. Pours amber colored with half a finger of white head with very good retention, but no lacing. Starts with caramel and some bready malt character as well as a bit of citrus. Finishes dry with a pretty sharp pine resiny bitterness that clings to the palate. Pretty good, but doesnít really remind of a red. More of an amber ale to me.

Tap at Elysian Fields, Seattle - 09/11/12.
Lightly hazed mid amber with a thin off white head that reduces to a pond and the edge of the glass.
Nose is pine, tropical fruits, mango most noticeable.
Taste follows the nose, hops, pine, mango, bitter grapefruit.
Medium bodied with soft carbonation lending towards a bitter finish.

Bottle. Pours an opaque gold with small off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malts and lemons. Flavor is perfectly well-balanced between the sweet malts and the citrus hops. Slight bitterness in the finish. One of the best beers Iíve ever had!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
June 30th, 2011 - The Elysian Menís Room rounds out Elysian offerings, deviating from the Greek mythology I learned to love during my time in Seattle, and instead decorating their bottle with the kind of wryly strange sign Iíd expect to see in any number of Seattleís quirky bars. As another pale ale in Elysianís line I sort of wonder where it fits, and whether or how the hop profile will set it apart from other brews coming out of Elysian. I believe it does. It begins with a great, consuming and growing head, which has more in common with a Belgian golden ale than it does other APAs, and the lacing runs a beautiful fishnet stocking pattern down the side of the glass. The aroma is generically malty, but chilled and caught behind the head - thereís a clean styrofoam type of aroma, but not likely what the beer actually smells like. A light body greets the palate, casting the classic flavors of an amber around palate, but a nice hop body as well to keep the caramel sugars at bat. It tastes almost like a double IPA with a bit of amber and red, and an insistence on using alcohol and sugar to strengthen the brew. The first sip is better than the last though, as the beer progressively loses its character. I donít know why, but it tastes just a bit plain after that first sip wears off.
