Aromas of pumpkins, pumpkin spices and some bread. Tastes of spices, pumpkins, caramel, and bread. Spices are there and stronger in the tastes. savnac (416), Palmer, Alaska, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 23, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a clear deep amber with a creamy off white head. Aroma is just like a pumpkin pie, you get the pumpkin and the typical pumpkin pie spices even a bit of some pie crust by way of the bready malts. The flavor is not as strong as the aroma, sweet bready malts with a light bitterness. Medium body with mild carbonation but a bit of a thin watery finish. This is a solid Fall pumpkin beer just a bit thin and lacking a full rich flavor. Beaver (596), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 22, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy amber bown with a thin head that quickly goes to a thin collar.
The aroma is bready malts, a touch of fruit and some spices (nutmeg, allspice).
The flavor is vegetal malts with spices. It has a bit of an off metallic finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a little spritzy carbonation, but is mostly watery.
Overall, it sounded and smelled so good - just didn’t taste good to me. I like pumpkin beers but this was a bit off (vegetal and metallic). DuffMan (2751), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2009 Bottle. Clear amber with a soft beige head. Very spicy aroma and flavour, with a pumpkin muffin character (sweet and bready). Dominant spice for me was nutmeg and clove. Sweet, but nicely balanced with spice, and the finish is dry, keeping this from becoming played-out too quickly. Probably the best pumpkin ale I’ve had this season. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 17, 2009 THOUGHTS: It was OK. I guess it actually would be a really good pumpkin ale if all those more extreme and imperial pumpkin ales weren’t around. Nice real pumpkin taste and aroma, not just spices. Seemed a little thin and weak.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium to dark amber with a very small, off-white head that mostly diminished and just barely left fair lacing. The aroma was light caramel malt and both pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices, but as I swirled it around in the glass to get a better whiff it became a sort of sour vomit aroma. But when I stopped swirling it, it was fine again. My advice, don’t swirl. The flavor was a bit watered down. The initial flavor was sweet and a little acidic; while the finish was acidic, lightly sweet and slightly bitter with an average to long duration. There was caramel malt, pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices and slight hops. The light to medium body was a little watery at first and then very dry, as if the spices were still in the bottle. It had fizzy carbonation and a dry and lightly astringent finish. Dogbrick (2855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 16, 2009 On draught at Falling Rock Tap House in Denver for the 2009 Elysian Pumpkinfest. The beer pours a clear dark orange-amber color with a medium sudsy off-white head that diminishes steadily. Sticky patches of lacing on the glass. Pumpkin spices and sweet malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of clove, pumpkin and cinnamon along with some sweet malt underneath. The finish is clean with a sweet pumpkin aftertaste. Good all around. Aroma of Pumpkin pie with some spices present. I taste a bit of the pumpkin but its no Pumpking. Medium carbonation. Glad I got to try this one. Maverick34 (698), New York, USA
