Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale

really solid pumpkin ale. A bit milder and more subtle than the Great Pumpkin but still captures pumpkin spices well.

Bottle. Cloudy amber with a white head. The nose is rather subtle, some pumpkin and nutmeg. Flavor has notes of pumpkin, nutmeg, caramel and earthy hops. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not bad.

Poured a redish orange color with small head and almost no lacing. Aroma was lots of cinnamon, nutmeg and other spices. Flavor was very much like a punkin pie. Not a bad one nothing amazing.

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle. Pours a beautiful dark orange color. The first time I tasted this beer was back in October, and I think this bottle sat on the shelf a little too long. However, my rating is going to be based on my first impression....smooth flavor, with just the right amount of pumpkin.

NorCal Feb ’08 - Easily one of my least favorite beers of the night. The score reflects a high appearance mark, as it was very nice to look at in the glass. Unfortunately, the aspiriny/vinegary nose was a major turn-off. I got no pumpkin spices in the aroma or flavor at all. Light sweetness turns to said asprin-like aroma with a twist of vinegar. Gave me that damn shiver drinking it. Flavors were also had that aspirin twang to it, and little else. If you gave someone this beer to try for their first pumpkin beer it’d be an utter dissappointment. I would, however, like to sample another bottle with the hopes that this was a mistake somehow.

Appearance: Pours a clear, deep, dark amber body with small, scant white head. Smell: Nicely aromatic pumpkin and crystal malt scent, with notes of ginger and spices. Taste: Syrupy, sweet malt flavor with toasted pumpkins and that squasy/vegetal twang you always seem to find in these things. Spicy kick. Mild hop bitterness. Finishes with a toasty spiciness and flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and, much to my dismay, some ginger. Mouthfeel: Just barely medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Pretty decent, the beer improves quite a bit upon warming.

Thanks to dirty martini. I should’ve drank this fresh. Pumpkin colored pour, small white head. Aroma is pumpkin pie, yes really. Flavor is a muted pumpkin puree, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves. Semi sweet and really just lacking complexity. Thin bodied and low carbonation, maybe it wasn’t that good to begin with.

Thanks to Ryan for this one. Amber body, a small beige head forms. Lemony tang in the nose, lots of spice and pumpkin. Flavor is sugary, along with the suspected pumpkin and usual spices.
