Undercarbonated medium body. kmweaver (2398), Sebastopol, California, USA Jan 26, 2008 22oz bottle, courtesy of artusory. Thanks, Ryan! Pours a hazy, orange-amber color; off-white head with fine-bubbled lacing. Pleasant amounts of actual pumpkin and perfume and sugar in the aroma; light spicing. Slightly tart / citrus upfront; medium mouthfeel, showing pumpkin and perfumy malts, with some cinnamon and cloves; lots of perfume; surprising tart presence. Kind of odd. Medium finish, showing pumpkin and sugar and spice. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Jan 26, 2008 Hazy amber body with a small off-white head. Lightly sweet pumpkin nose with moderate amounts of spicing. The flavor is lightly sweet with pumpkin, cloves, cinnamon and light brown sugar. Medium body is round with light carbonation. Decent pumpkin. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Jan 25, 2008 Pours a dark brownish orange with a thin somewhat dense white head. Not much of a nose to it. Faint smells of malt and pumpkin. Not a ton of spices in the taste of this brew, which is a good thing. Nice and mellow pumpkin flavor and some malts. Not much spice whatsoever. Nice body, not too thick, not too thin. Good carbonation. My second favorite pumpkin brew after DFH Punk. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 18, 2008 Thin, fading white head. Lightly hazy, bright copper body. Nice aromatic pumpkin aroma with pleasant notes of roasted seeds and sweet pie spices plus a biscuity malt underbelly. Good pumpkin pie flavors. Interesting how a decent pumpkin ale can render that concept so much better than pumpkin pie-inspired teas, coffee, etc. Does have an odd cherry note and somewhat thin, juicy palate. Very solid pumpkin beer overall. I appreciate when brewers go whole hog and don’t cut corners on this style. Thanks to dirty martini.
eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jan 7, 2008 Bottle from 5000/Larry Pitonka. Pour was ruby orange in color, average initial head, thins to a very thin covering, goes to a ring after that. The aroma was significant spicing, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, some pumpkin. The flavor brings the pumpkin malts, pie crust, breadiness to the fore with the spices in the background, yet still significant. Overall, fairly balanced, not nearly as spicey as the aroma suggested. Mouthfeel was a little malty sticky, but probably not much more so than the rest of the pumpkin brews. A decent brew. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Dec 13, 2007 Thanks to msubulldog25 for the bomber. Ok, so this is weird. Sour, wild yeast flavor. Like a pumpkin lambic. Believe it or not, it’s not too bad.
You can really taste the pumpkin in this, and the pie spices are very understated. I pick up some coriander. And intensely sour (at least for what it is).
Most likely the bottle is infected. I need to rerate when I manage to get another. But dammit, I like this flavor. I don’t think they could recreate the ’pumpkin lambic’ if they tried.
